Sunset Rotary and Carson Kiwanis say thank you

On behalf of Kiwanis of Sierra Nevada and Sunset Rotary; a big thank you to all of our local merchants and individuals who donated items for our raffle and silent auction for our Sierra Therapeutic Equestrian Program Fundraiser.

Your generosity was overwhelming. A special thanks to C.W. and Dr. Spitmore for their delightful music, and all the members of both clubs who worked so hard in making this a successful event. We had an awesome turnout and raised over $4000 for this wonderful program.

Sincerely, Linda Bowman and Debbie Young Nelson.

Referendum to Repeal Commerce Tax and Recall Senator(s)

The citizens of this great country started a Revolution in 1773 by throwing tea into the Boston Harbor to protest “Taxation without Representation”. A new Revolution has begun in the state of Nevada for the same reason.

On November 4, 2014, nearly 80% of Nevada’s voters said NO to Question 3, The Education Initiative, which was a margins tax based on a business’s gross receipts. Just 72 days later, during his State of the State address on January 15, 2015, Governor Brian Sandoval proposed a $7.3 Billion budget to be funded with roughly $1 Billion in new taxes.

The solstice couldn’t come at a better time: we need some long days to get through all the fun stuff Carson City has crammed into one weekend. The annual Powwow at the Stewart Indian School runs Friday through Sunday, so you’ll have plenty of time to see the dancing, peruse the crafts, and eat an Indian Taco. Don’t miss the Fly-in and Open House at the Carson City Airport: fun for the whole family. And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention one of Carson City’s favorite events: the Taste of Downtown. Music, food, and more from Carson Mall to Williams Street. Have a great time, and be safe.

The 78th Session — An Autopsy

The elections in November 2014 were a great surprise to many and shock to some. The people swept all Democrats out of the state-wide offices, reversed the majorities in both houses of the Legislature, and by a 4-to-1 margin defeated the "margin" tax. We the Republican base were looking forward to restoring long-overdue sanity at the State level.
