Motorcycles are on the way. The Street Vibrations Spring Rally is rumbling into town and Battle Born Harley on Research Way is the place to be. Every Thursday, house band the Smoken Rabbits, gets the place jumping, but this party won’t end until Sunday. The weather is finally cooperating, so karaoke at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar will be out on their patio – J and M Productions has thousands of songs to choose from. Jimmy Mallett at Living the Good Live will croon you into yesteryear with Rat Pack nostalgia.

It is that time of year again, time for the Carson High School Class of 2017 to graduate and move on toward other exciting endeavors. Many graduates will continue their education by heading up to the next level, going off to college, while some will attend a trade school, and yet others will simply begin employment in a field of their choice.

Fire up that grill, Carson City, we’ve got the perfect weather to kick off the summer. The early Farmers Market at Musser and Nevada offers the perfect finishing touches to any picnic or bar-be-que. It’s all aboard for train lovers: the V&T begins its runs to Virginia City this weekend and the historic Glenbrook Engine is all steamed up at the Railroad Museum. You’re almost there. The long weekend is just around the corner, and everywhere I go I hear of camping trips and bbq plans. As the weather heats up, Muscle Powered compensates by moving their easy hike to the cooler hours of the morning. Chef Mitchell Tufts has found a new home at the new Cadillac Café at the Silver Oak Golf Course: the Grand Opening is at noon. Author and journalist, David Toll, tells the tale of the defunct newspaper, The Gold Hill News, at this month’s lecture at the Nevada State Museum.

Ariana Schmidt, Executive Editor of the 2017 Carneta yearbook and Carson High School News Magazine, accepted yet another Gallery of Excellence award from Walsworth Sales Representative Natasha Volpe.

It’s a perfect day to wander around. The Thirsty Third Thursday Wine Walk along Main Street Gardnerville kicks off its season with a Mardi Gras theme. Take an easy hike with Muscle Powered along Voltaire Canyon, and your leashed, friendly dog is invited to join. Congratulations to the Battle Born Business Center; their Grand Opening Celebration includes a live reggae band. The Carson High Bands take to the Bob Boldrick Theater stage in their final concert of the school year; go cheer on the award-winning Blue Thunder. You won’t want to miss a special night with the Novelists at Sassafras.

This weekend is for all of the moms out there, and the dads that are also moms, and the women who hold a special place of honor in our hearts. Scoop the family up and find something to enjoy together. The annual RSVP Spring Carnival is an easy choice, but a round-trip to Virginia City on the historic V and T Steam Train is pretty memorable. Find something pretty for her garden at the Spring Plant Sale that the Greenhouse Project hosts each year. Keep reading, there’s plenty of family fun this weekend, and adult fun if you’ve found yourself a babysitter.

I’m in love with sunshiny days. Unfortunately, something cloudy is around the corner, so please embrace what today gives us – as Northern Nevadans, we know that the weather is fickle. Thursdays offer up karaoke at Westside Pour House and Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar – too much fun for a weekday. You may have noticed the hullaballoo at Mills Park; the annual Mothers’ Day Carnival opens tonight, and all of the rides are only one dollar each thanks to the generosity of Dick Campagni’s Carson City Toyota Scion.

Bike month rolls right along with an evening ride under the big, beautiful moon this evening. You’ll need a helmet and bike light, of course. The evening will be just as nice Thursday, when the annual RSVP Spring Carnival opens at Mills Park. Head to Dayton for the next installment of this month’s Historical Society Lecture Series as Kay Winters reminisces on life as a farmer’s wife in the 1950s and 60s. Ev Musselman rocks the stage at the Max Casino and you’ll find John and Cherie Shipley leading the jazz jam at Living the Good Life.

So many things deserve to be in this first sentence: do I mention the annual West Side Bike Month Cruiser Ride, make a Star Wars pun about May the Fourth, or focus on the Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony? What I love most about Carson City is our ability to be outdoorsy, patriotic, geeky, and none of the above - all at the same time. If you don’t find something you absolutely have to check out in today’s “Things to Do”, please look at my list again in a day or two, or sometime next week.

NEW WASHOE CITY, Nev. – May events at Washoe Lake State Park include a guided hike to Virginia City, a sunset hike, Celebrate Washoe Valley Day and a wildlife-based campfire program. Reservations are required for the guided hike to Virginia City and for the sunset hike.

Joe Wiegand, one of the nation's premier recreators of Teddy Roosevelt will be visiting Carson City and presenting his program at our weekly meeting at Tito's Mexican restaurant, 444 East William Street, Carson City at 6 p.m.

The Littlest Things in Carson City is more than a petting zoo, it’s a refuge. You’ll find ponies, goats, puppies, ducks, and more at this great non-profit rescue and they are always looking for animal-loving volunteers. The California Tahoe Conservancy, Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District, California State Parks and the U.S. Forest Service are planning on continuing prescribed fire operations on Monday, March 27, depending on conditions.

Today is a day to give big. A one day fundraising drive for our favorite non-profit charities is happening right now, whether it’s animals, arts. Kids, veterans, or the environment. Thursdays also mean a fun night at Jimmy G’s Karaoke. The Trippin King Snakes help celebrate everyone with a March birthday at the Cigar Bar (AKA Carson Cigar Co.) Irish eyes are smiling on us: it’s going to be a gorgeous day. You won’t have to look far for some green beer, whiskey, or corned beef – there will be St. Patrick’s Day parties all over. Live music is on the menu, as well. Choose from Men of Worth at the Brewery Arts Center, an all ages punk show at Sassafras, or Stereo Galaxy in the McFadden Plaza, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The brave ones will be at the St. Baldrick Fundraiser at Red’s Old 395 where you’ll see some heads shaved for a good cause. Where ever you end up, just make sure you have a plan to get home safely.

First known as the Ides of March, today is also ‘Veteran’s Day’ at the State Legislature. Brian Sandoval presides over a ceremony at the Veterans Memorial at 9 a.m., and even more is in store at the Legislature, including a BBQ. It’s also Nevada Moves Day, which means you’ll see a lot of school age walkers and bicyclists on the sidewalks. Reward your family with a movie at the Library tonight: The BFG is fun for all ages. What’s this? A weekend with no snow in sight? That’s the best news I’ve heard in months. Welcome to the wrestlers and swimmers who are in town for their respective tournaments: you’ll find other fun things on this list to occupy your downtime. It’s a St. Patty’s celebration in Virginia City this weekend with the parade, Rocky Mountain Oyster Fest, and Ball Buster Saloon Crawl. Bragging rights are on the line at the Sixth Annual Thirsty Boy Homebrew Competition sponsored by Just Brew It. You’ll get a sneak peek at the soon-to-open Shoe Tree Brewery if you attend the award ceremony.
