But Nick Posey reminds us that there's still hope for the old games. The owner of Retro Replay specializes in the sale, cleaning, and care of vintage used video games and equipment.

Virginia and Truckee Railroad summer season opens Memorial Day weekend

The 2016 Virginia & Truckee Railroad season chugs full steam ahead starting Memorial Day weekend, May 28-29. Authentic period steam trains ride through the heart of Nevada’s 1860s silver boom towns where legends of the Wild West were born and live on today along the original 16-mile route between Carson City and Virginia City, Nevada.

Business Spotlight: Cowboys Liquor offers service and selection

When the ownership of the new Cowboys Liquor store took over the retail space formerly occupied by Ben's Fine Wines and Spirits, it wanted a name that befit the area.

Staff Sommelier Greg Psilopoulos said there are a lot of cowboys and ranch folks in Northwestern Nevada, and they carry the spirit of the West with them.

"It feels like we're still in the Old West here," he said.

It is the quintessential song-and-dance spectacular, 42nd Street. The award-winning Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company presents the musical at the Carson City Community Center, weekends, May 6 through 15.

Mystique celebrates grand opening

Mystique Restaurant and Lounge held a grand opening celebration Tuesday night, an event attended by dozens of supporters.

The restaurant, located downtown at 318 N. Carson Street, occupies the space formerly used by Sassafras and B’sghetti’s restaurants. Mystique opened for business in December after the Carson City Board of Supervisors approved its liquor license.

Tuesday’s grand opening celebration included 5-6 different free appetizers, live music, and free champagne to guests.

Carson City MAC open, city league athletes all smiles

The Carson City Parks and Recreation Department began hosting its first sports programs in the city's Multi-purpose Athletic Center. The 33,400-square-foot $8.3 million facility opened the doors last month, but Saturday was the first day city leagues took to the courts and enjoyed the new facility.

Scott Chapman, Sport Program Supervisor for the Carson City Multi-purpose Athletic Center, said the facility will have programs running 7 days a week beginning on Monday.

Nevada Northern Railway Museum’s Fireworks Express train ride offers a firework show from the back of a moving train on Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend.

On Saturday, Jan. 16, historic locomotive 93 steams out of the museum and through downtown Ely to launch its fireworks for both onlookers and passengers. Started in 2009 for the locomotive’s centennial celebration, the fireworks express is a popular event and seats on the train often sell out.

Carson City Sheriff’s Deputy Howell posthumously recognized at award ceremony

This week the Carson City Sheriff's Office recognized its outstanding performers for 2015. Each received a plaque and cash award for their contributions to the department and the community.
Of the five nomination categories, one name stood out for nomination for Deputy of the year, Deputy Carl Howell who was killed in the line of duty Aug. 15, 2015.

Holiday songs and pop favorites featured Sunday at Carson City Library karaoke

Step back in time and sample authentic Dutch oven fare as you learn how early pioneers crossing the California Trail prepared their meals during a dutch oven demonstration Sunday at Mormon Station State Historic Park in Genoa.

Traversing the Great basin was a rough journey, with little timber and vegetation along the winding Humboldt River. Park Rangers will tell stories about the pioneer’s perilous travels across Nevada while teaching the basics of Dutch oven cooking.

I Love Carson City's Weekend Event Summary: August 22-23

Hold on to your hats, Carson City, summer isn’t ready to quit us just yet. An aviation air show at the Minden Airport, the coin show and fair at the Nevada State Museum, and a fishing derby for the kids at Little Washoe Lake are only the tip of the iceberg. The Pavilion at Mills Park is where you’ll find the annual Carson High Football Boosters Fundraising BBQ. The Quicksilver Dog Agility Trials are always fun to watch, and they’ll be at Fuji Park all weekend. Carson Lanes has family fun indoors and out all day long during their Bowling Blast-off.
