Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada’s 2017 cookie program is officially underway. Girl Scout troops will host their cookie booths in front of retail shops and grocery stores from Friday, March 3 to April 2, 2017.

Two adults and a juvenile were arrested Wednesday after multiple stolen items were recovered in a suspected commercial burglary spree at several stores, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

The food was plentiful and enjoyed by everyone, along with fabulous yummy desserts prepared by Brenda Horton, President of the Ladies Auxiliary. A big thank you to Larry Knack and Rick Athenour for arranging the event.

Save Mart Supermarkets in Carson City will match in-store donations Friday to the Ron Wood Family Resource Center.

For the past month, Carson City shoppers have been able to donate to Ron Wood at checkout through Save Mart Companies' "Give.Share.CARE! Holiday Drive," said company spokeswoman Nanette Miranda.

As the holiday season approaches, Charlie Blim, owner of Charlie B Gallery, advises going into local shops rather than big box stores.

“I’ve got stuff made by actual humans,” he said. “All that other stuff is made by machines.”

But when customers come into his shop, he’s not pushing to make a sale. He’s got a bigger goal in mind.
“Art changed my life,” he said. “If they take the time to learn the history, learn about the artist, it could change their lives too. It’s not just about buying stuff.”
