FoodMaxx grand opening Dec. 7 in Carson City
Nearly nine months after the Save Mart Supermarket closed at 3325 Highway 50 East in Carson City, a new FoodMaxx grocery store is about to open in its place.
The Save Mart Companies, which owns FoodMaxx, had originally planned to open the new store in August. But delays in the remodeling process pushed its opening to the end of the year.
FoodMaxx will offer customers a warehouse-style shopping format in more than 52,000 square feet of retail space, a press release from the company said.
“As families plan their holiday gatherings, we hope they’ll give us a try and see how much more they get for their money by shopping at FoodMaxx,” said FoodMaxx General Manager Frank Capps. “We’re committed to providing our shoppers extraordinary value every time they’re in our stores. That’s our focus, and we work hard every day to deliver that.”
The Carson City FoodMaxx is the grocery chain's second store to open in Northern Nevada in less than a month, the press release said. Sparks opened a FoodMaxx two weeks ago.
FoodMaxx will mark the opening of its Carson City store Wednesday, Dec. 7 with a ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled for 9 a.m. at 3325 Highway 50 East.
As part of the grand opening celebration, the new FoodMaxx store will match every donation up to $1,500 made at checkout to the Ron Wood Family Resource Center during the company's "Give.Share.Care!" holiday drive, which lasts from opening day to Dec. 27.
The store will also donate $500 to its adopted school, Empire Elementary, whose students will sing Christmas songs at Wednesday’s grand opening festivities.
In addition, Friends in Service Helping (FISH) will receive a $500 donation from FoodMaxx as well.
Wednesday's grand opening in Carson City comes just as FoodMaxx celebrates its 30th anniversary. The first FoodMaxx store opened October 1986 in Bakersfield, CA.
Today the chain operates 52 grocery stores in California, and now two more in Nevada.
