Staying connected to students, virtually, is the biggest challenge every educator is facing right now. Teachers, paraprofessionals, school counselors, administrators, school secretaries, custodians, and everyone for that matter is missing the energy and life students bring to our worlds.

Nevada 4-H youth and their families launch statewide effort to make face masks

When the Elko County Emergency Operations Center put in a call March 31 to their local University of Nevada, Reno Extension office saying they needed face masks, Extension’s 4-H youth and their families swung into action, making masks not only for the Operations Center, but also for their local School District nutrition services workers who are helping to serve lunches to students who receive free and reduced meals.

Nevada Magazine promotes Megg Mueller to top position of executive editor

CARSON CITY — Megg Mueller, Nevada Magazine’s managing editor, will step into the new role of executive editor this month. She assumed leadership of the publication after the March 6 retirement of publisher Janet Geary, who ran the magazine for the past 12 years. Nevada Magazine, which dates back to the 1930s, is a division of the Nevada Division of Tourism (Travel Nevada), part of the Nevada Division of Tourism and Cultural Affairs.

Carson City Schools Foundation awards various grants to support students and educators

The Carson City School District, on behalf of the Carson City Schools Foundation, is pleased to announce winners of mini-grants from Fall 2019 and Spring 2020. The competitive process garners dozens of applications from district educators each semester. In addition to the mini-grants, the foundation has also awarded $2,000 to $3,000 grants for a Department, School or Grade-level projects.

Carson Guns has teamed up with Reno Guns & Range to host an NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course on Wednesday March 4, 2020 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and an NRA Pistol Instructor course on March 5-6, 2020. Both courses will be taught by NRA Appointed Training Counselor Randall Brooks, a Carson City local.

Local dignitaries visit Carson City elementary classrooms, guest-read for reading week

Each year, National Read Across America Day is observed on March 2, the birthday of children’s book author Ted Geisel, also known as Dr. Seuss. In celebration, many schools often dedicate an entire week as “Reading Week.” In Carson City, grade-schoolers at Fremont Elementary School got to celebrate a week prior to the observance with several community partners and local dignitaries, who visited classrooms to read to students.
