Heading into Father’s Day weekend, there's plenty of jam-packed activities around the Carson City region. There's Flag Day ceremonies at the Nevada Veterans Memorial and at the Elks Lodge. The Stewart Father’s Day Powwow happens Friday to Sunday and features hundreds of American Indian dancers, drummers artists and cultural enthusiasts. Lace up the tennis shoes for the Eastside Historical tour of the capital city hosted by Muscle Powered. Journey of Hope returns to Western Nevada College at 5 p.m. to settle into the evening. Open Mic Night at A to Zen will cap-off an eventful Friday heading into the weekend.

Good day Carson City and welcome to an abbreviated work week thanks to Nevada's own celebration of statehood on Friday and Saturday's famed Nevada Day parade. Today is Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018, and for those keeping score, we're 62 days away from Christmas.

In preparation for the 12th Annual Dia De Los Muertos Celebration at the Nevada State Museum, Studio at Adams Hub is hosting a skull painting event with music, salsa, chips, Jarritos, Mexican Candy, and all materials supplied for free.

The Carson Valley Art Center is a new art center located in Minden at 1644 U.S. Highway 395, Suite B, between the Bank of America and the old winery directly across the street from the Carson Valley Market.

Not one but two days of beer, brats and oompah bands will be featured at Casino Fandango in Carson City with plans announced Wednesday to expand its fourth annual Oktoberfest, Oct. 6-7, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The 20th Anniversary Senior Celebration will be held today in the Carson Nugget; free for all to attend, you’ll have the chance to visit a variety of booths with information and resources. After yesterday’s freakish hailstorm, we may as well be ready for anything. More thunderstorms might be on the way this afternoon, but I can’t promise they follow any kind of schedule. The first of the season Third Thursday Wine Walk in downtown Gardnerville is this afternoon, and you may want to bring an umbrella as you sip and stroll.

Popular local entertainers, Cherie and John Shipley will fill the house with Irish sounds from The Irish Rovers, Clancy Brothers, and many more traditional and not-your average Irish tune. Along with enough toasts for every sip!

I’m going to apologize right now. I can’t anticipate what this storm system will throw at us, so some of these planned events could get cancelled.
