Friday: Nov. 17: Things to do in Carson City and Beyond

The wet weather has passed, at least for a few days. If you didn’t want to brave the downpour to drop-off a frozen turkey Thursday, then you are in luck. Another frozen turkey drive runs all day at the Max Casino in Carson City or the Sanchez Meat Co. in Minden. The Carson High Craft Show, a long-time locals’ favorite, begins this evening at 5 p.m.

The Salvation Army and Friends In Service Helping, also known as FISH, are separately accepting frozen turkeys and canned items to be distributed to those in need for Thanksgiving.

Battle Born Harley Davidson is throwing an appreciation party complete with food trucks. November is a month filled with holiday craft shows, and it starts now. Check out what the Young at Heart Seniors Club has to offer at their annual show at the Douglas Community Center. Capital City Arts Initiative celebrates 15 years of bringing arts and culture to our valley: help them celebrate at the Adams Hub on Proctor and enjoy their silent auction featuring the works of several local artists.

Seeliger Elementary School is hosting theirs for the twenty-fifth year in a row. Take a trip on the V and T Steam Train at the Nevada Railroad Museum, actually take several trips. The annual Harvest Train event offers an all-day wristband that allows for as many rides as you’d like, in addition to museum admission. Carson High Wrestling Kicks Off Season with Oktoberfest Fundraiser

The leaves have changed color and the temperature has begun to drop; as quickly as Summer seemed to arrive this year, the Fall season has rolled right on in.

The change of season can mean a lot of different things to people; but to Nick Redwine, Fall means the beginning of the wrestling season. Nick Redwine was named the new head coach to the Varsity wrestling team at Carson High School this past Spring and he has been preparing ever since.

Fundraiser for Carson City girl with brain tumor at Shoe Tree Brewing Company

There will be a fundraiser Tuesday, Sept. 17 at Shoe Tree Brewing Company for Iliana Avila, an 8 year old girl from Carson City with an inoperable brain tumor, (DIPG).

She is currently under care at UCSF, where she is undergoing radiation to slow down the progression of her tumor. All funds collected at the event will help relieve some of the financial stress as her family spends as much time as possible with her.
