A distinct popping noise resonated throughout an empty Greater Nevada Field during the Reno Aces’ batting practice session on Saturday.

The Carson City Council of the Navy League of the United States will hold this quarter’s Dinner and meeting on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at the Gold Dust West Hotel and Casino, Carson City. The Social hour will start at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday, August 3

Hundreds of attendees and classic cars packed downtown Virginia City during the Hot August Nights Kickoff Rally on Saturday.

The first Hot August Nights began on Aug. 1, 1986 at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, and Virginia City brought a sense of nostalgia back to the historic mining town.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days, including Hot August Nights Kickoff Rallies in Virginia City, history walks at Mormon Station Park, pickleball at the Carson City MAC, concerts at the Brewery Arts Center and TJ’s Corral, a Muscle Powered Sunday morning bike ride and more!

Good day Carson City and welcome to Thursday, August 1, 2019. More of the same weather wise is in store today, with sunny skies and a daytime high near 90. Activities ahead include a morning hike, a meeting of the Carson City Board of Supervisors, art showings, a "Pint for Pint" blood drive at the Fox Brewpub, a coin mint party at the Nevada State Museum, outdoor music at Living the Good Life and more. A night of fact or fiction is coming to Western Nevada College’s Jack C. Davis Observatory in Carson City. Mike Thomas will provide his take on the legitimacy of the “Legend of King Arthur” on Friday, Aug. 2 at the observatory.

Speaking of “Superhumans,” a night later on Saturday, Aug. 3, Thomas will kick off the observatory’s star party with a slide show presentation of a variety of real people who have abilities who can only be described as “super.”

The Nevada Artists Association Presents: The 2019 Judged Photography Show and The Members' Summer Show. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily except Mondays through September 6. Come and see all the beautiful entries and vote for your top three People's Choice favorites in the Judged Photography Show.

This year, the Carson City Fair Coloring Contest sponsored by Carson Kids Dental was a huge hit throughout the weekend, and over 50 children in three age categories participated with over 300 votes.

The contest this year featured a barnyard scene and was available for print out before the fair as well as during the fair at a booth set up in the Exhibit Hall.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region over the next three days, including the Carson City Fair, Karson Kruzers Run What Cha Brung car show, a fundraiser bike ride, cooking classes, tours at the Nevada State Museum, train rides on Saturday and much more!

The Levitt AMP Carson City summer concert series continues this Saturday, July 27 with two headliners sure to light up the night at the Change Company stage, bringing with them all the flavors of pop, funk and plenty of soul.

CARSON CITY — Statewide, jobs increased by 3.3 percent, a gain of 45,500 new jobs added since June of last year and the fastest growth in the nation for the 9th consecutive month, according to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s June 2019 local area economic report released Tuesday.

Karson Kruzers will host its 34th "Run What Cha Brung" car show beginning Friday, July 26 at Max Casino in Carson City with events the following day at Mills Park.

The rodeo returns to Virginia City Aug. 24-25 bringing with it a full force of western and cultural heritage starting off with a longhorn cattle drive right down the center of town. The 4th annual Virginia City Rodeo and Fiesta del Charro features a mutton bustin’ tournament, classic bull fighting, traditional rodeo events and a celebration of Hispanic heritage.

A fundraiser is being held for local Carson City man John "JT" Tomaroy, who was involved in a head-on collision while coming home from Las Vegas, and he is now in critical condition at Renown.

A "Show and Shine" fundraiser will be held to raise funds for JT and his family on Sunday, July 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Seeley Loop of Mills Park, located at 1111 East Williams Street.

There will be raffles, food and music and awards for the top five. Registration is $20, and all proceeds will be given to the family.

AARP National has just released the winners of their Community Challenge Grants and the Brewery Arts Center is on the list!

For the third annual AARP Community Challenge, AARP received more than 1,660 applications from nonprofits and government entities, resulting in a highly competitive selection process.
