Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Western Nevada College will host a memorial exhibit and informational presentation on the 9-11 attacks on Friday. Partnership Carson City will team up for a statewide suicide prevention virtual walk this Saturday. Along with live music and a 5K run/walk at Bob McFadden Plaza, there is plenty of excitement buzzing around the state capitol! Read on for more information.

Carson City Health and Human Services reports Thursday, Sept. 10, 2020 that there are 15 new cases and four additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 1,121, with 1,002 recoveries and 15 deaths, 104 cases remain active.

The Carson City Republican Women's Club will hear candidate for Carson City Supervisor Maurice White at their upcoming luncheon meeting.The meeting will be held Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at Casino Fandango commencing at 11 a.m.

Douglas County is kicking off the process to update the Master Plan Text and is calling on residents to help shape the future of their community. A webpage has been constructed to provide the public with additional information regarding the update and public outreach has begun.

The goals and objectives contained in the Douglas County Master Plan text guides the decisions of the Board of County Commissioners and the Planning Commission related to the long term planning and development of the County over the next 10-20 years.

The Nevada Artists Association is excited to present the 2020 “Summer Show." This judged show represents a collection of 74 plus photographs, paintings, drawings, mixed media and 3D pieces by Nevada Artists Association members and non-members from Northern Nevada.

September 11, 1937 – December 3, 2019

Jean Hamilton passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Tuesday Dec. 3rd.
Jean married Bud Hamilton on December 22, 1956 in Lindsey, California. They moved to Carson City, Nevada in 1972. Jean always wanted to be a nurse and went to nursing school as soon as all her kids were in school. She enjoyed a 37 year career as a Registered Nurse, with the majority of it spent at Carson Tahoe Hospital. Everyone who worked with her, or were under her care, said she was truly the best nurse.

The next meeting of the Carson City Board of Supervisors will take place on Thursday, Nov. 7 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center located at 851 East William Street.

Several hundred made their way Wednesday evening to the 9-11 Memorial at Mills Park for a remembrance of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorists attacks on American soil, paying tribute to those who lost their lives with words, song, prayer and hope.

There will be a September 11 memorial event at Mills Park in Carson City this Wednesday. The service will take place at the 911 memorial beginning at 6 p.m. The event is hosted by Carson City Christian Ministerial Fellowship. Guest speakers are Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell, Sheriff Ken Furlong, Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon and pastors from local ministry.

According to a letter sent out to Carson City residents and business owners, The Basil on Carson Street announced that it will be closing on Sept. 12, 2019.

Nevada Humanities will welcome author Willy Vlautin at a series of events throughout northern Nevada during the month of September. Mr. Vlautin is the author of Don’t Skip Out On Me, a 2019 pick for Nevada Reads—a statewide, public book club offered by Nevada Humanities. Nevada Reads invites Nevadans to read selected works of literature and to come together in their communities to share ideas and perceptions inspired by the book club selections.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Division of Water Resources has completed revisions to Phases 1 through 5 of the Newlands Project Water Rights Mapping Project.

Baily's Pond in South Carson hosted a free Kids Fishing Day Saturday to encourage young anglers into the sport of fishing.

The pond was stocked and ready for the little reelers to catch their dinners for the night. A cleaning station was available on site to help with getting their fish ready to take home.

Carson Valley Senior Living and Memory Care donated 50 percent of the community’s total move-in fees from November and December 2018 to the Wounded Warrior Project. The amount totaled $3,750.

The Wounded Warrior Project is a charity and veterans service organization that offers a variety of programs, services and events for wounded veterans of the military actions following September 11, 2001.

Members of the Carson City community gathered Tuesday evening at the September 11 Memorial in Mills Park outside the Pavillion to remember those who lost their lives in the 2001 terrorist attacks and to offer prayers and hope.

This is the 16th anniversary of a national tragedy. It was a day the nation paused, slowed down, and turned toward concern for our fellow man. Dozens attended a ceremony this morning in Mills Park, commemorating the 15th anniversary of the Sept. 11 Terrorist Attacks on the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and United Flight 93 over Pennsylvania.
