Five Lyon County schools were among 48 schools in five Nevada counties awarded grants in support of classroom gardening efforts.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Nevada's 2nd District Congressman Mark Amodei released the following statement after voting in favor Thursday of H.R. 1, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, a comprehensive plan to reform the nation’s tax system:

Four Nevadans will be honored on Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Governor’s Mansion in Carson City for their contributions to the American Indian community.

CARSON CITY — Battle Born Hall, the museum exhibit inside the old Senate chambers on the second floor of the Nevada State Capitol, is closing its doors Nov. 1 for a major renovation.

Gov. Brian Sandoval expressed his gratitude Thursday to the Nevada Legislature for responding to his requests as outlined in his State of the State address in January of this year.

During the fall of 1983, my friend - a journalist, columnist, editor, hurmorist, speechwriter and political strategist - Chris Schaller introduced me to a man, he cited, as the smartest politician ever. Tom Fettic. And Christy, as you know, had previously worked with some of Nevada's very best.

CARSON CITY — A bill seeking to reestablish the rooftop solar industry in Nevada appeared headed for approval after a Senate panel on Friday amended and unanimously passed the measure.

The Senate twice voted down a key 10 percent excise tax on recreational marijuana sales on party lines Thursday, signaling there was no agreement between the parties on the divisive Education Savings Accounts program and throwing a host of other major unresolved issues into limbo with only days to go before the end of the 120-day session.

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval signed 29 bills into law Wednesday including a $6 million appropriations bill for the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to make up for a projected shortfall due to the costs of fire suppression, emergency response and flood related projects over the past several months in Carson City, Douglas, Washoe, Lyon and Churchill counties as well as Lemmon Valley and Elko County.
