Fraternity team to stop in Carson City during 4,730 mile bike ride

The Journey of Hope North team arrive in Carson City as part of a 4,370-mile summer-long journey from San Francisco to Washington, D.C. on Saturday, August 10. The team will dedicate their summer to supporting people with disabilities through grant funding and community engagement. This group of 22 cyclists and six crew members is one of three Journey of Hope teams cycling across the country. This event, organized by The Ability Experience, is now in its 32nd year.

Senator Square: Carson High School students make plans for their future

Carson High School students not only experienced exciting college, job, and career opportunities outside of school this past week, they were also presented with an explosion of options directly.

Chamber Orchestra Students returned from their successful regional music festival in San Francisco, several CHS students enjoyed job shadowing with Nevada Legislators, and May 21 offered students access to its job and career fair throughout the day.

Military veterans and seniors to take flight in WWII biplane: Public invited to attend and watch Dream Flights

Pre-selected military veterans and seniors will enjoy the thrill of a Dream Flight in a 1944 Stearman biplane, the same aircraft used to train military aviators during World War II. The flights are courtesy of Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation (AADF), a Carson City-based nonprofit that honors U.S. military veterans nationwide with free Dream Flights. AADF has given more than 3,700 Dream Flights nationwide since 2011.

CHS orchestra earn gold rating, outstanding musician recognition at San Francisco festival

The Carson High School Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Brian Fox, traveled to the San Francisco Bay Area this weekend to participate in a regional music festival sponsored by Forum Music Festivals.

Recently, several CHS freshman Biology classes had the opportunity to work with fourth graders from Empire Elementary in Carson City. Students learned about conservation, the water cycle, and the Carson River watershed. CHS students, trained by the River Wranglers conservation group, and on a very windy day, met up with Empire Elementary students at Baily Pond.

Obituary: Jeffrey Lee Thompson

Jeffrey L. Thompson passed unexpectedly on March 15, 2019 due to injuries sustained during a motorcycle accident.
Jeff was born Jan 17, 1957 in Jamestown, New York.

He was born to the late Melvin Thompson and Kay (Tolman) Thompson.

Levitt Amp Carson City: Josh Hoyer and Soul Colossal presented by the Change Companies

Josh Hoyer and Soul Colossal formed, in 2012, in the blues-town of Lincoln, Nebraska. The five-piece band had been inspired by sounds of Motown, Stax, Muscle Shoals, New Orleans, Philadelphia, and San Francisco; they are “music for the people, by the people,” and they do whatever they can to get a crowd dancing to forget all about their own troubles. Their musical roots and inspirations can be heard alongside their more-contemporary sound as they charge into the modern era of soul music. CARSON CITY — Native American artist Melissa Melero-Moose finds inspiration for her mixed media creations from the landscape and culture of the Northern Paiute of the Great Basin.

“Willows, tules, cattails, and pine nuts are all very important staples to the Paiute people, being sources of food, shelter, and implements made with artistic intention,” she said. “I consider these works to be a perspective of my tribe and culture through the eyes of a Native woman, mother and artist.”

I just returned from Orange, Virginia from a conference held at Montpelier, former US President James Madison's estate. I was chosen among applicants to attend this conference because I think our community needs to know the cool educational opportunities in which teachers are embarking. The conference covered “Gender, Sexual Identity, and the Constitution.”

Talented Carson City area musicians perform March 22 to benefit Carson High bands

Obituary: Kenneth Robert Taylor

Ken Taylor

Kenneth Robert Taylor passed away peacefully with family by his side in Las Vegas on Jan. 22, 2019 following a brief, unexpected illness which took him away too quickly and far too early.

Ken was born on April 7th, 1953 to John and Lois Taylor in San Francisco, CA and grew up in the California Bay area. Throughout his life, he always described himself as a "big kid", always full of adventure and making memories for his family.

Kermet Apio to appear at the Carson Comedy Club inside the Carson Nugget located at 507 N. Carson Street on Feb. 8-9 at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7:15 p.m.

Kermet Apio was the winner of the 2009 Great American Comedy Festival and has had numerous appearances on television and radio. He has showcased at comedy festivals in Aspen, Las Vegas, and Vancouver and has performed in 47 states and three Canadian provinces. He is a past winner of the Seattle Comedy Competition and was a semi-finalist in the San Francisco Comedy Competition.
