Jamba Juice to hold May 11 benefit for cancer patient Tiffani Barber

Jamba Juice on Topsy Lane in Carson City will hold a fundraiser for cancer patient Tiffani Barber, Saturday, May 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11. Fifty percent of sales will go to help Tiffani and her cancer treatment.

Earlier this year the Carson City woman was diagnosed with gliobalstoma, the most common and aggressive malignant brain tumor. She found herself at age 24 in the fight for her life.

Increasing the Joy is making the holiday season more joyful by distributing gifts to these children, who may not have a traditional Christmas like many of us. I wanted to take some time to send out a special thank you to the awesome Businesses and people in our community who helped support our Junior and Senior Little League All Stars advancement to the Western Regional Tournaments in Vancouver WA and Ontario, CA this year! With out their support this would not have been possible for these fine athletes. Our Juniors (13-14 year olds) and Seniors (15-16 year olds) both Finished 1 and 3 in their tournaments and failed to advance to the Little League World Series but had an experience that most kids never have had.

Downtown Gardnerville Hotel Gets New Owners

The Historian Inn, built in 2000 and located in downtown Gardnerville, has new owners who plan on bringing their brand of casual elegance to this community landmark.

Clé Hospitality, a hospitality company headquartered in Mammoth Lakes, CA, purchased the property in February 2012 and has already begun renovating hotel rooms with historic artwork and artifacts, custom-designed furniture, and upgraded beds and bedding. The hotel is currently open for guests, and a post-renovation grand opening event is planned for late May to showcase the property to locals.

Grand opening this weekend for Sierra Le Bone

Sierra Le Bone, a boutique for dogs and cats as well as their owners, will celebrate their grand opening Friday and Saturday at their new location at 880 South Stewart Street, across from the fire station.

The business moved in October from their previous location in the Raley's Center, and co-owner Jan McMinn said they are very happy in their new place. Even though their old store was just a few yards off busy South Carson Street, they had trouble converting that traffic to customers as other businesses in the same building began closing their doors.

The Fruit Barons harvest unclaimed fruit and donate surplus to a number of local organizations. This year they will also recover apples to make cider for a social event hosted by Healthy Trees. Persons with ripening fruit can bring in their own apples or call the Fruit Barons at 220-6330 or 224-3827, who will donate some of the apples for a cider-making event to be held on Saturday, 5 November, 10 a.m., at 2578 South Curry Street, #5, in Carson City.

Carson City DA and sheriff warn of uptick in purse snatching cases

Carson City residents should be on alert following a rash of purse thefts from local businesses, vehicles and government office buildings, District Attorney Neil Rombardo and Sheriff Kenny Furlong said today in a joint news statement.

At least a dozen women’s wallets and purses were stolen from area businesses and vehicles between May and August, according to the statement. Among the thefts include:

— A woman’s wallet was stolen from her purse as she tried on a wedding gown in a South Carson Street bridal store.
