Three arrested in significant Carson City drug bust; 2.6 pounds of meth seized

The Carson City Special Enforcement Team made a significant drug bust Thursday night that resulted in three arrests, 2.6 pounds of methamphetamine valued at around $67,000 seized, along with around $3,600 in cash, night vision goggles and a gun silencer.

Carson City Sheriff's Office issues four alcohol-related citations Saturday

Two individuals and two servers were issued citations Saturday as part of efforts by the Carson City Sheriff's Office to stop the sale of alcohol to minors.

A "shoulder tap" operation was conducted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office on Saturday where individuals were asked by a person in decoy to purchase alcohol for him or her. The "decoy" informed those asked that he/she was underage and could not purchase the alcohol. The decoy was assisted by two Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies who oversaw the operation.

Fundraiser at Twisted Spoke Bar and Grill for victims of ATV accident

On June 20 two Carson City area girls, Katrina Ingersoll and Marcy Martin were in a near fatal ATV accident. Marcy has already been released, yet Katrina is still fighting for her life.

Not all the details are known at this time. As most know these girls have families that are known to help out in times of need. At this time the friends of the girls are asking the community for support in raising funds for these girls and their families.

Thirty years ago, Dr. Mewaldt, retired Western Nevada College professor, began working on developing a garlic that was superior to those currently on the market.

Man jailed for DUI and drug charges says he was on Vicodin but not drinking

A 30-year-old Carson City man, arrested on suspicion of DUI early Friday morning, also faces a felony charge of being in possession of a controlled substance and a gross misdemeanor charge of being in possession of a dangerous drug.

Carson City sheriff's patrol officers stopped Lauffette Kimmins Jr. for speeding, doing 44 mph in a 25 mph zone. The man showed signs of intoxication and admitted to taking Vicodin pills but denied drinking any alcoholic beverages. When officers spoke with the man, they could smell alcohol on his breath, the arrest report states.

Designer purse fundraiser Saturday to benefit Carson City Senior Center meal program

It's going to be a very busy Saturday in Carson City with so much to do for every age group. An event women will love is the Designer Purse Sale sponsored by the Carson City Senior Citizens Center between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Women can never have enough purses and this will be a way to have some incredible purses at a fraction
of the retail cost. All funds raised help provide meals for our local senior citizens. The Senior Center has served nearly 92,000 meals in their FY 2011-2012.

The senior center is located at 911 Beverly Drive.

Two arrested after Carson City traffic stop leads to drugs, burglary tools

Carson City patrol officers who stopped a Suburban for speeding on Monday morning found drugs and burglary tools inside the vehicle set to be impounded.

Two men were arrested and face multiple charges. The arrests were made at 7:24 a.m. in the 1000 block of Fairview. Alex Matthew Silva, 26, of Dayton faces felony drug possession charges and misdemeanor possession of burglary tools. The other is a 28-year-old Sparks man who faces misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor charges.

Gun bill passes in Assembly, expects veto by Governor

CARSON CITY — Controversial gun bill Senate Bill 221 passed 23-19 in the Assembly on Monday, with four Democrats voting against the measure.

However, the bill is expected to be vetoed by Brian Sandoval in the next 10 days.

The bill requires background checks on the private sales of guns and requires courts to report mental health issues, which would be used as part of the background check.

Sports Kiosk Ban Bill Passes Assembly

CARSON CITY — A bill that bans sports kiosks from bars and taverns passed in the Assembly on Thursday with a vote of 41-0, despite sparking controversy earlier in the legislative session. SB416 would restrict free-standing sports-betting machines and defines sports kiosks as sports books, which only casinos can have.

Assembly Minority Leader Pat Hickey, R-Reno, said of the bill, that he supported it despite having initial misgivings.

"I don't think the NFL is going to have a problem," said Herm Edwards, former Kansas City Chiefs head coach, now an NFL analyst for ESPN. "Is there going to be a vote of confidence in the locker room? For some of the younger and immature players, but the veteran players — they get it."
