The Great Carson City Lit Fest is a three-day celebration of the arts, with the focus on books, authors and literacy. More than 50 critically acclaimed authors, poets, performance poets, memoirists and storytellers will give readings, panel talks and sign their books.

Tickets on Sale for The Misfits Performances: Show Opens Friday

The Misfits Theater Group presents "A Travel in Time or They Eat A Lot," an original play written and directed by Gail Gundersen.

Our hero believes in time travel and decides to travel forward some 200 years. He "makes a wrong turn" and ends up hundreds of years in the past somewhere in Nevada with the ALOT Tribe.

When they are threatened by the evil Red Headed Giants, the hero helps the tribe formulate a plan (one, that according to legend, a tribe actually used) to defeat their enemy.

Parking Lot Book Sale This Saturday

The Browsers Corner Book Store is having a parking lot book sale on Saturday, May 10 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sale prices will be $1 for hardcover books and 50 cents for paperbacks. We will also have videos for 10 cents each. After 4:00 pm everything will go for $1 a bag.

Just in a very large donation of history and military history books which will be included in the sale.

The book store is located at 711 East Washington Street in Carson City. All proceeds will benefit the Carson City Library.

Spring Plant Sale Takes Place Saturday at The Greenhouse Project

The Greenhouse Project hosts its annual Mother’s Day Weekend Spring Plant Sale, Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

All the plants are grown from seeds harvested at The Greenhouse and features diverse vegetable and flower transplants including Heirloom tomatoes, zucchini, squash, rainbow chard, hot and mild peppers, melons, herbs, cucumbers, greens and petunias, annual flower, perennial bedding plants and more.

So the big game tag application deadline came and went and you somehow forgot to get your application in. Or you applied for your hunts but you’re always looking for other opportunities. If either of these scenarios hits home for you, we would like to direct your attention to the Nevada Dream Tag.

The Nevada Dream Tags Program is a raffle that allows resident and nonresident sportsmen a chance at the hunt of a lifetime while also contributing to Nevada’s wildlife habitat. The tags are similar to other western states’ raffle tags and “hunt of a lifetime” tags.

Douglas County Library hosts its annual Spring Book Sale, featuring more than 15,000 titles May 16 through May 18 at the C.V.I.C. Hall, 1602 Esmeralda Ave. in Minden.
Everyone is invited and Friends of the Library receive a 15 percent discount all weekend. There will be lots of signed books at reasonable prices,with more than 50 categories to choose from, including children's, fiction, art, nonfiction,and technical.

Hundreds of shoppers arrive at Carson Mall for Bealls department store grand opening

Bealls opened Thursday morning at Carson Mall to great fanfare with hundreds of customers arriving early to shop at Carson City's newest department store.

Bealls store manager Kessn Flitton said customers filed into the 24,000-square-foot store for the grand opening ribbon cutting, taking advantage of bargains, sales, 25 percent off coupons, shopping sprees, gift card and merchandise giveaways.

At least 300 customers went through cashier lines within the first hour of opening, said Regional Manager Lewis Rael.

“New” Book Store in Carson City Has Grand Opening

The all new Browsers Corner Book Store run by the Friends of the Carson City Library opened last week to hundreds of eager buyers, and the books flew off the shelves.

Customers were surprised with five rooms of books for adults, a bright and colorful area for children’s books and audio visual items, all for sale at bargain prices. New merchandise is processed and put on the shelves daily.

The new store is located across the street from the library at 711 E. Washington St. All proceeds generated by the book store benefit the Carson City Library.

License plate sales fund Lake Tahoe environmental preservation projects

Nine projects have been awarded grants through the 2014 Lake Tahoe License Plate program, which generated around $350,000 last year from the sale of special plates through the DMV. Grant recipients were announced Tuesday by the Nevada Division of State Lands.

Grants are made available annually for projects that preserve and restore the natural environment of the Lake Tahoe Basin.

National Train Day at the Nevada Railroad Museum set for May 10

To commemorate National Train Day the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City will operate and offer rides on May 10 aboard Virginia & Truckee Railway's McKeen motor car No. 22.

The car entered service for the V&T on May 9, 1910, and was retired in 1945. No. 22 is the only restored and operable McKeen motor car in the world. In 2012, the Secretary of the Interior granted the No. 22 National Historic Landmark status, which recognizes the McKeen motor car's significance to United States history.

We just recently helped a client close down and liquidate a corporation that was no longer wanted or needed. Since the stockholder had invested in the corporation stock when it was formed and it had suffered losses, the stock qualified for a special tax benefit as Section 1244 stock.

Virginia and Truckee Railroad season begins with annual Mother's Day train to Virginia City

Mothers will be the star passengers Sunday, May 11 on a special edition train ride from Nevada's capital, Carson City to the 1860s boom-era mining town of Virginia City.

Amodei introduces bill to stop sage grouse endangered species listing

Nevada Congressman Mark Amodei of Carson City introduced legislation Tuesday in response to the possibility of the sage grouse being listed to the Endangered Species Act.

Carson City Sheriff's Office make multiple felony drug-related arrests over weekend

A home care provider was booked Friday into Carson City Jail on three felony warrants charges involving burglary, grand larceny and possession of stolen property.

Ella May Dix, 50, of Reno was taken into custody by the Carson City Sheriff's Office after the woman arrived at the front counter for the warrants. The three felony charges are out of Las Vegas Justice Court and issued Jan. 15, 2014. Bail: $80,000.

Sportsman groups offer prizes to Nevada big game hunters in Silver State Tag drawings

No offense, but if you don’t put in for a Silver State Tag when the big game application period opens on Monday, you must not like hunting very much.

The Silver State Tag already allows hunters the chance to hunt one of four premier big game species (mule deer, Rocky Mountain elk, Nelson (desert) bighorn sheep and pronghorn antelope) anywhere in the state, but now you also have the chance to win thousands of dollars of hunting gear as well.

Friends of Carson City Library bookstore finds new digs across the street

The Friends of Carson City Library will be closing their Browser’s Corner Book Store, currently inside the library, at the end of the day on Saturday, March 22. The Browsers Corner Book Store will re-open in their new location across Washington St. from the library with a Grand Opening on Saturday, April 12.
