The kids of Wild Horse Children’s Theater continue their successful run of Junie B. Jones at the Brewery Arts Center - it’s their final weekend, so don’t miss out. Maddie’s Adoption Days is a state-wide event trying to find forever homes for dogs and cats; you’ll find several local shelters and rescues participating in the free adoption days.

Greenhouse Project celebrating 10 years of fresh bounties in Carson City

About a decade ago, a group of community members organized a sustainable horticulture program targeting food insecurity in Carson City. They called it the Greenhouse Project, a not-for-profit effort to improve the quality of food available to the area’s most hungry.

Carson City weather: Region braces for gusty winds, rain and river flood threats

A powerful spring storm moving into the Sierra, Carson City and western Nevada regions will bring drenching rains, gusty winds and the potential for river flooding through Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

Well, the expected rain didn’t show up overnight, but that doesn’t mean it’s not on its way. The brand-new Friday morning walk with Muscle Powered is weather permitting and will meet at the Multi-purpose Athletic Center instead of Fuji Park if it’s wet out. You’ll notice a sea of blue downtown after noon as the annual pinwheel planting for Child Abuse Awareness takes place; the community is welcomed to lend a hand. It’s aviation night at the Children’s Museum with paper airplanes and pilots on the agenda.

UPDATE: A Flood Warning has been issued along the East and West Forks of the Carson River in Douglas County including the main stem of the Carson River from the confluence to the Cradlebaugh Bridge on Highway 395 in western Nevada. See the National Weather Service flood warning here.

A strong atmospheric river storm will impact the Carson City region, western Nevada and Sierra from Friday afternoon into Saturday, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Flood Watch for much of the area.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. — There was an explosion just after 5 a.m. in Stateline on Sunday morning, causing the road to buckle and closing Highway 50 in both directions through the casino corridor. Multiple agencies are on the scene including NV Energy, the Nevada Highway Patrol and the Tahoe Douglas Fire Department.

The weekend has arrived, and it will be an exceptionally long one for the schoolkids of Carson City: spring break begins Monday. There’s a rumor of snowfall for this weekend, but it’s not expected to be too heavy in the valley. Don’t quote me on that, though, I’ve been wrong before. Break a leg to the Douglas students performing in ‘Game of Tiaras’ this weekend; the show sounds hilarious, but be warned, it’s not for kids.
