Kirkwood, Squaw and Mammoth offer skiing and boarding this holiday weekend

If you haven’t stowed your skis or snowboards already, you can still get some slope time this weekend as three resorts are offering snowsporting: Kirkwood Mountain Resort, Squaw Valley and Mammoth Mountain.

Kids Run-4-Fun in Carson City

A free race for children will be on Saturday, July 3, from 10 a.m. to noon at Edmonds Sports Complex. Join the Tahoe Trail Blazers Outdoor Adventure Club for fun runs, obstacle courses, bounce house, pottery painting, food and drinks,and lots more fun for families in support of kids' health and fitness. There will be a half-mile and mile race. The Edmonds Sports Complex is located at 1555 Livermore Lane in Carson City.

NHP: Driver killed in road racing event on Saturday in Storey County

A 37-year-old Las Vegas man was killed in a road racing accident in Storey County on Saturday. 
Alexander Djordjevic died at the scene after he lost control of his Porsche 911 during a sanctioned road racing event north of the Storey and Lyon county lines, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The 5.2-mile stretch of the two-lane highway had been closed to the public for two days between 8 a.m and 5 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday to facilitate a sanctioned road racing event, according to an NHP press statement.

Former State Lawmaker, State Democratic Party, To Settle Defamation Lawsuit Over 2008 Campaign Mailer

CARSON CITY – Former state Sen. Bob Beers, R-Las Vegas, said he has settled a lawsuit with the Nevada State Democratic Party over a campaign mailer sent out just days before the November 2008 general election alleging he was under review by the state Ethics Commission.

I wrote earlier about how the outcome of the supervisors races could give us a clue on how the public views the Nugget Project, AKA the Carson City Center Project.

Karen Abowd, the only candidate to openly support the project, did come in first in her primary with 31 percent of the vote in a six-way race.

Contested GOP State Senate Primary Races Split Between Moderate And Conservative Candidates

CARSON CITY – In the fight for control of the Republican Party in the state Senate in the Tuesday primary it was an even split, with conservative candidates taking two of four contested seats and two others going to more moderate candidates backed by Senate Minority Leader Bill Raggio.

Carson City sees strong primary turnout; Republican and sheriff races dominate

With less than two hours to go before Carson City polls close, Clerk/Recorder Alan Glover reports a busy primary day with a voter turnout, when all is said and done, that may be around 45 percent.
"It's going real well. The turnout is much better than we expected," Glover said, adding that early voting and absentee returns should represent about 30 percent of the cast ballots.
The breakdown in turnout seems to be largely Republican, with a 60-40 split, however the race for Carson City sheriff may be bringing out a lot of non-partisans and Democrats, he said.
