This week is designated National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, honoring those in the field of emergency call-taking by recognizing them for their quick thinking actions as they navigate telephone lifeline responses between those needing help and those first fire and sheriff's office responders arriving on scene.

Serenity Mental Health in Carson City is now offering COVID-19 screenings and testing. The Carson City mental health facility has access to more than 400 COVID-19 tests. Any resident in northern Nevada who currently has symptoms and feels they may have contracted coronavirus may apply regardless of insurance.

In the business environment change brought on by COVID-19, there will be winners, maintainers, and losers. Although much is out of our control, business leaders who lean into innovation and what they can control are more likely to maintain or even win.

As part of the Remote Learning or at-home lesson plans set to launch Monday, March 23, the Carson City School District has made a number of resources available on the carsoncityschools.com website. A Remote Learning page has been created to provide parents and students with weekly materials for elementary students.

Nutrition Services with the Carson City School District have added two more drive-through pick-up locations for free lunch and breakfast, including the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada and the Ron Wood Family Resource Center.

I have spent the last week helping businesses communicate and innovate during the COVID-19 pandemic. With a little lull in my meetings, I turn to you in Carson City to provide insights. UPDATE: Carson City Health and Human Services clarified one item in the resolution regarding the number of cases. Carson City health officials have identified 1 positive case and the potential exposure of 14 ship passengers who have been repatriated who are being tracked.

My friend Sarah suggested I write about forcing blossoms indoors since we are all anxiously awaiting spring color to arrive on trees and shrubs. Forcing blossoms gives us a lovely spring preview. A 42-year-old New Jersey man was arrested in the 3400 block of Market Street for five felonies including attempting to obtain money under false pretenses, forgery by uttering a forged instrument, and obtaining and using the person ID of another for an unlawful purpose.

Activities around town include a yoga class offered through Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness, a midweek meditation series offered at Carson City Yoga, a firearms course, plus Salsa dancing at Yaple's Ballroom, country and pop dancing at Carson Lanes, a safety workshop for women, a Carson Valley Trails Association celebration more.

Carson Guns has teamed up with Reno Guns & Range to host an NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course on Wednesday March 4, 2020 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and an NRA Pistol Instructor course on March 5-6, 2020. Both courses will be taught by NRA Appointed Training Counselor Randall Brooks, a Carson City local.

Somebody simply must stop the bleed, and Sierra Lutheran High School is responding to that challenge. Recently, the faculty and staff of the Christian college prep high school in Carson City became the first schoolwide staff in Douglas County to take part in the national bleed kit training being promoted by The National Stop the Bleed Campaign.

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space is having a Cottonwood Wrapping volunteer event! We will be installing mesh wire around the base of Cottonwood trees to protect them from being damaged by beavers.

I’ve been working long hours. I hired an assistant to help with some of the projects that I deemed “on the floor” so I could put my effort toward billable hours. It’s been quite the juggling act in 2020. I feel like I’m being given a life lesson in what’s important, what’s crucial, and what keeps me smiling. Oddly enough, they are not all one in the same. CARSON CITY — On Wednesday the Southern Nevada Health District reported the first person under investigation in Nevada for the 2019 novel coronavirus.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will be testing samples from the Southern Nevada resident who has been identified as a person under investigation. Currently, Nevada has no confirmed cases of novel coronavirus.

Last week, I wrote about overwhelm and how to approach it. But, there’s one part of the process of overcoming overwhelm that will trip you up if you don’t understand it - setting priorities.

Priorities fall under a number of categories:

• Critical priority. (Example: Something that has to be done in 24 hours, often has a consequence if not done)
• The deadline is approaching. (Example: Hard deadline, no moving it, often has penalties for missing)

A 31-year-old Gardnerville man and a 29-year-old transient man were arrested in the area of the Goni Water Tower after deputies were alerted to a man in a vehicle next to the tower who appeared to be incapacitated and found they were allegedly using drugs and were in possession of several bottles of mercury.

I have had a lot of opportunity knock on my door lately. It seems from the moment I open my eyes in the morning, I am going non-stop on everything from my new radio show on KNVC (Business Therapy, Mondays and Wednesdays 7:30 to 8 a.m.) to the needs of a variety of companies. Honestly, it can get a little overwhelming. It’s overwhelming until I realize there a sure-fire cure for overwhelm — take one strategic action.
