Ventana Sierra, who is a local non-profit who helps homeless and aged out foster kids with housing and college tuition, is hosting a Monster Ball as their major fall fundraiser.

The event will be held at the Plaza Hotel confrence room on October 26th from 8 PM to Midnight, and is for adults ages eighteen and over.

Fishing is picking up with the cooler temperatures and hoppers are on the hillsides above Angel.

However, anglers are still reporting a few slow days here.

Enjoy a wondrous evening under the stars with our friends from Great Basin National Park as they host the Star Train at Nevada Northern Railway, Saturday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m.

There will be a trivia contest on board with prizes for those with their thinking caps on. Passengers will be let off the train in order to gaze through telescopes at the night sky, guided by the Dark Rangers of Great Basin National Park. This is a great train ride that the whole family can enjoy.

The Lodge Assisted Living Community will host its monthly Senior Mingle on Thursday, September 26 from 2 – 4pm. All local seniors are invited to attend the Mingle which features entertainment, refreshments and fun raffle prizes.

This month, guests are asked to bring a new pair of athletic shoes to donate as part of the Lodge’s annual SOLEmates Shoe Drive. The shoes will be donated to the Carson City School District’s McKinney/Vento Children in Transition program.

Julian, 5, is diagnosed with cerebral palsy and Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, a rare form of epilepsy that is difficult to treat. He has many different types of seizures multiple times a day. The journey to control his seizures has been difficult and on-going. The fundraiser will help raise money for alternative medicine that is not covered by health insurance. The fundraiser is free, and includes music, food, beer, wine, balloon twisting, and face painting. There will also be a silent auction from 6 -8 p.m. with great prizes. Everyone in the community is invited and encouraged to attend.

Signups are underway for the 12th annual Stroke to Help Fight Breast Cancer golf tournament, Saturday, Sept. 28 at Eagle Valley Golf Course in Carson City.

Hosted by Soroptimist International of Carson City, ASCE, Carson Tahoe Hospital and Tahoe Carson Radiology, the tournament features raffle prizes, contests, games, 2 hole-in-one prizes, closest to the pin and lowest and highest score prizes.

The cost is $85 and includes golf and cart, a continental breakfast and barbecue.

In the throes of a sun-drenched late Lake Tahoe summer day, MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa will bite the head, pinch the tail and build the body Aug. 24 in a daylong feast and flex protein fest for the eyes, abs and everything in between.

The inaugural Boil 'n Fry Day Festival is Lake Tahoe's version of an old fashioned New Orleans crawdad feed, complete with live music at the MontBleu Outdoor Event Center, carnival games, hot wings, cold beer and all the fried, boiled or barbecued fresh water crustaceans partygoers.

Between June 7 and August 4 the Carson City Library engaged a record breaking 2,750 youth, ages 6 – 17, in signups for the 2013 summer reading program and attendance in summer learning activities. Fishing varies from day to day, with some days being good, while others being slow. Best time of day is from about 6:00 am to 10:30 am and then again after the shadows start to hit the water in late afternoon.
Best conditions seem to be with a 5 to 10 mph breeze, putting a small chop on the water.
A few fish are being taken with small dry flies, mostly yellow in color, but most of the luck is still coming with nymphs below an indicator or dry fly.

Carson City, NV – From the Carson Library and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada, librarian-led summer programs and activities are over the halfway point and more than 1,500 community youth are participating.
