Clay is a wonderful, tactile medium that many kids have never experienced before. Its three dimensional nature forces them to think about structure, shapes and forms.

At Kids Clay Camp they can experiment with a variety of building techniques while they learn to think about their ideas and adapt to change along the way.

There is something very magical about children when they are thinking and working creatively. Once children learn to express and execute their personal visions in clay, they can become empowered in ways that go far beyond the walls of the ceramic studio or classroom.

What are your children doing this summer? With the school year coming to a close, summer approaches with the promise of warmth and long days. Families talk about vacation time.

Still, parents wonder what else their children will be doing. And children wonder too. It's time to plan now.

The Empty Bowls project, a locally organized fundraiser that culminated at the Carson City Silver and Snowflake Festival on Dec. 6 and was initiated to bring awareness of local hunger issues, raised $2,722.35 for Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH, which feeds, houses and provides services for more than 20,000 people in Carson City annually.

A grassroots project to raise money and bring awareness of ongoing hunger issues in the Carson City area — The Empty Bowls Project — was the bright diamond among the many shining stars featured at Friday night's downtown Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights celebration.

More than 600 handcrafted artisan bowls made by dozen of local potters were featured for this inaugural event, led by Robin McGregor, owner of Carson City Pottery. Festival-goers paid $10 for each bowl, which were filled with steaming hot varieties of soup donated by local restaurants.

At 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning a group of well bundled people met in downtown Carson City for the Fall Art Walk. If you missed the walk or forgot to take notes, here is a brief recap.

1) Comma Coffee – The “Backseat Gallery” in the back was featuring art by Barry Mitchell. It was a great opportunity to get a hot coffee too.

2) Legislative Grounds – A viewing of the statues of Kit Carson and Abraham Curry and the Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial along the beautiful ground of the Nevada State Legislature.

Students will receive an introduction to clay through hand-building and throwing on the potter’s wheel. Additionally, instruction will include design and decoration using glaze and underglaze. Tuition includes supplies and tools. Bring towel &/or apron & wear close toed shoes.

This is a great way to spend quality, creative and fabulously fun time with your kid/s! In this one-day class both adult and child will create a unique and delightful hand-built project! Techniques may include pinch pot, coils, slab, embellishment, and underglazes! Each adult may bring up to three children ages 7-15. ADVANCE REGISTRATION REQUIRED.

Tuition: $50 per adult and one child, and $25 per additional child &/or adult (just in case both Mom and Dad want to come.)

Art is abound, Saturday, June 1, Downtown Wine Walk, from 1- 5pm ...and held the first Saturday of every month!

Brewery Arts Center, on King St. between Division and Minnesota will have their Summer Art Sale and Open House, fun, demonstrations, music, and song - an entertaining day of great art, food and drinks at the BAC... 'The teaching artists, art students, artisans, and the Nevada Artist Association Gallery artists, will have lots of new and exciting artwork for sale", Stan and Johanna Soliday will perform.

Carson City Pottery School will be demonstrating pottery making at Caterpillar’s Hookah Lounge on Carson Street during wine walk this Saturday, June 1, from 1-5pm.

Open Studio is for experienced students who have previously enrolled in at least one beginning pottery class and who want to use the studio for independent projects and skill development. An instructor is present to assist and answer questions, but no formal instruction or assignments will be given. Raku firings are scheduled when there is sufficient interest. Glazes and firing are included in tuition. Students must purchase their own clay.

Tuition: $50 month (Students must pay prior to the 1st class of each month.)

The Nevada Artists Association will present the Christmas Time Art Show at the Carson City's Brewery Arts Center Gallery. NAA artists will be exhibiting fine art in paintings, photography, sculpture, pottery and glass. Shoppers looking for those special one of a kind gifts will be delighted with the art at the BAC Gallery, which will be open daily, now through Christmas, including Sundays from 10am to 4pm. On Saturday, December 15th the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada in Carson City is hosting several holiday events.  From 10am-4pm the museum will have its first annual Holiday Craft Sale.  They will be featuring Carson City Pottery which is housed in the museum.  Staff and students will be giving demonstrations and selling work for last minute holiday purchases.  In addition, the museum gift shop will be having a one day only sale, 20% off for members and 10% off for non-members.  Admission to the sales are free.  Limited vender space still available.  Contact Mary Ann at 884-2226
