The Carson City Republican and the Carson City Democratic Central Committees condemn the recent vandalism and sign thefts occurring in our town recently. Neither of these acts helps or advances the political agendas of either party and in fact hurts the overall political process for selecting our political leaders.

Sandra Louise Osheroff, aka Sandy, nanny, and mom, a mother, bookkeeper, dog lover and community mover and shaker, adored by many, feared by some, died of cancer on January 20, 2020 in Carson City, Nevada at the age of 82.

CARSON CITY — Sierra Nevada Realtors recently announced their 2020 President and Board of Directors. The President for next year is Claudia Saavedra, who is a Realtor with Charles Kitchen Realty in Carson City, Nev.

Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Alysia Peters, Northern Nevada Political Director for the Biden for President campaign. Following her presentation, she will field questions from Democrats still undecided ahead of February's precinct caucuses.

CARSON CITY — The Carson Tahoe Health Foundation recently received a $10,000 donation from the Sierra Nevada Realtors. The donation was raised through the Sierra Nevada Realtors participation in Carson Tahoe’s annual Hopefest event and through the Realtor’s annual Cornhole for a Cause competition.

The Sierra Nevada Realtors will host the Alyce McCracken Scramble for Scholarships on Friday, May 10, 2019 at Toiyabe Golf Course in Washoe Valley.

This annual golf tournament is played in honor of Realtor Alyce McCracken, a resident of Northern Nevada who had a passion for continuing education and training. Proceeds from the tournament benefit local high schools in the communities served by the Sierra Nevada Realtors including the counties of Carson City, Douglas, Churchill, and parts of Lyon.

The Sierra Nevada Association of Realtors recently named Karen Marsa as their Chief Executive Officer. She previously was Executive Vice President for the Incline Village Board of Realtors for more than 12 years.

Marsa brings to the position several years of experience in real estate association management, member and public outreach, and law firm management; and also served as Chief Administrative Officer for the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is investigating windows that were shot out early Tuesday morning at a downtown Carson City antique store.

The incident happened at just after 1:30 a.m. Tuesday morning at Hanifin’s Arts and Antiques on the Curry Street entrance. The business is located at 210 North Carson Street. Two large plate glass windows were shot out. Dispatch received word of the vandalism at 1:33 a.m.

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said the shooting incident is under investigation and did not elaborate further.

The Nevada Department of Transportation is reminding political candidates and their supporters that no political signs are allowed on state road right of way.

Well-known Christian evangelist Franklin Graham held a rally Wednesday afternoon at the State Capitol amphitheatre in Carson City, encouraging people to live out their faith and get involved in the political process.

The event was part of Graham's Decision America Tour 2016, a national outreach effort of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) to visit the state capitals of all 50 states this year, spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and encourage grass-roots involvement in the political process in communities across the country.

Beginning Oct. 3, most mortgage transactions will be required to be completed on new disclosure forms created by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The new forms – the Loan Estimate and Closing Disclosure – have been designed to improve consumer understanding of the mortgage process sooner, assist consumers with comparison shopping, and prevent unexpected issues at the time of closing.

In his October 19th Nevada Appeal column, Guy Farmer endorsed "PK" O'Neill for State Assembly, but described O'Neill's opponent, Dave Cook, as "a perennial candidate who should have remained on the State Board of Education." Farmer offers no rationale for his support of O'Neill or for his dismissive attitude toward Mr. Cook, whose term as Northern Nevada's representative on the Board of Education ends in 2016, not 2014.

Leslie Cain, of RE/MAX Realty Affiliates Carson City, has been named to her second term as the Carson City Director for the Sierra Nevada Association of Realtors.

In this role, she represents the Carson City community at the Association's monthly board of directors meetings. February 10, 2014 – Carson City, NV – Local Carson City resident, Wes Ball, recently received Emeritus status at the National Association of Realtors® 2013 Convention and Expo in San Francisco. He also received recognition from his local chapter, the Sierra Nevada Association of Realtors®, at a recent membership breakfast meeting. This prestigious honor is awarded to real estate professionals who have been a member of the National Association of Realtors® for 40 cumulative years and who have made a valuable and lasting contribution to the real estate community.

One of the core principles of conservatism has always been the concept of limited government which demands giving citizens more control on how they shape their local environment and policy, which by extension places more emphasis on local government and the ability of the citizen to participate in the democratic process, giving more access of the citizen to their locally elected officials.

The 5th Annual Cancer Sucks 5k held last month and presented by The Sierra Nevada Association of REALTORS® and PrimeLending was a huge success! The event brought out over 320 walkers and runners, many adorned in the color pink in honor of breast cancer awareness month. The proceeds from the event totaled close to $8,000 and will benefit local cancer patients through The Carson Tahoe Health Foundation.

The Annual “Cancer Sucks 5K” is celebrating its 5th year on Saturday, October 5. For the past several years this event has welcomed hundreds of men and women who choose to run or walk in honor of Cancer survivors, lives lost, and Cancer research. Additionally, one of the goals of this event is to provide funding for care to those who are in desperate need.

AB 312 which is now currently before the Senate Government Affairs Commission, and was submitted by Republican Assemblyman and former member of the Carson City Board of Supervisors, Pete Livermore, strikes at the very heart of our democracy.

It is a despicable piece of legislation motivated more by vindictiveness on his part towards the citizens of Carson City, coupled in part by his ineffectiveness as a state legislator.
