A Successful Reseeding of the Little Valley Fire Burn Scar
Submitted by user22 on Fri, 11/15/2019 - 4:39pmWednesday’s public reseeding of the Little Valley Fire burn scar, hosted by Sugar Pine Foundation and Patagonia, was a huge success. Over 60 volunteers showed up on the sunny morning to do their part in seeing the steep Washoe Valley mountainside just West of Franktown Road return from the ashes.

Going into the middle of the work week we can expect highs near 70. Local events Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019 include an Eagle Valley Middle School expansion plan community meeting, "Get Fit with Fight Camp" at Yaple's Ballroom, a Little Valley fire re-seeding gathering, a Toys for Tots volunteer orientation meeting, art showings, classes and more.

Submitted by user22 on Sat, 11/09/2019 - 1:03pmJoin South Lake Tahoe’s Sugar Pine Foundation and Patagonia at Historic Bowers Mansion Wednesday, Nov. 13th from 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. in the reseeding of sugar pine seedlings to the burn scar of the Little Valley Fire, which devastated nearly 2,300 acres and destroyed 23 homes in October of 2016.

10th Annual Silver State Vertical Drop Ski Competition Fundraiser
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Mon, 03/12/2018 - 11:44amThe Silver State Vertical Drop is an annual ski competition and community fundraising event put on by the Silver State Hotshots, a Carson City-based wildfire suppression crew.
Individuals or teams of 3-5 compete to safely ski as much vertical feet as possible in a 4-hour time period—the team with the highest average vertical feet skied wins. There are individual prizes for males and females who finish in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, and a team prize for 1st place. In the past, these prizes have been donated to us from companies such as Moment Skis, Patagonia, and Smith Optics.

Heavenly at Lake Tahoe celebrates snow arrival with early opening

Early-season storms combined with the West Coast’s largest snowmaking system have given Heavenly the ability to stage its earliest opening since 2004-05. All access to the mountain at this time is through the Heavenly Gondola and Tamarack Express.
