A Successful Reseeding of the Little Valley Fire Burn Scar
Wednesday’s public reseeding of the Little Valley Fire burn scar, hosted by Sugar Pine Foundation and Patagonia, was a huge success. Over 60 volunteers showed up on the sunny morning to do their part in seeing the steep Washoe Valley mountainside just West of Franktown Road return from the ashes.
Volunteers from Patagonia, Sales Force and the public helped Sugar Pine Foundation surpass their original goal of planting 600 Jeffery Pine seedlings into the earth that day.
“(Thanks to media coverage), more people were interested in the event than we originally planned for so we brought extra seedlings!” said Sugar Pine Foundation’s Executive Director, Maria Mircheva. They also were able to finish the project I n less time than was planned thanks to the volunteers, and they were able to plant 1,000 seedlings.
If you missed the event and would like to help Sugar Pine Foundation plant more trees in an effort to combat the forest’s threat from White Pine Blister Rust you’re in luck! You can join them and the Desert Research Institute on November 23rd on Lake Tahoe’s new East Shore bike trail at 10 a.m and plant a tree or two.
