Hello Carson City and welcome to Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019. With snow plow efforts underway and a warm-up from Mother Nature, it looks like the morning commute will be a slushy one. Carson City schools will operate today at normal start times. That all may change tomorrow though as a significant winter storm is expected to bring snow and rain to the valley and feet of snow to Lake Tahoe and the Sierra. Stay tuned.

Join Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space and the Nevada Department of Wildlife at Carson River Park on Jan. 19 to learn about the different ways wild animals make it through northern Nevada's winters.

At 1 p.m., nature lovers can visit educational winter wildlife stations, followed by an interpretive hike at 2:00 p.m.

After officially becoming the first Bee City in the Nevada, the first Bee City USA public quarterly meeting will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 9 in the Carson City Community Center.

The first Carson City School District School Board Meeting of 2019 will be held Tuesday, Jan. 8 in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street, at 7 p.m.

Good day Carson City, it is Monday, Jan. 7, 2019. After snow and wind blew into the capital city Sunday and overnight, we are looking at clearing but breezy skies in time for today's inauguration on the capitol grounds. Today is also the first day of classes for Carson City School District after winter break. As of the time of this writing, no delays have been announced.

The weather outside may seem frightful, but here in Northern Nevada, storms are usually all the more reason to get out and do things.

If you do go out on the east side of town today, please be aware of the mustang herding operation being conducted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office along East College Parkway late Sunday morning into the afternoon. There may be traffic delays and detours.

Let's hear it for the first weekend of the new year, because it won't happen again for another 12 months.

The first weekend of 2019 also means the first Saturday of the month, which is the day of the Downtown Business Association Monthly Wine Walk in downtown Carson City, come rain, snow, wind or shine.

That's a good thing, too, because this weekend will likely have all of that.

Welcome to the first Friday of 2019 Carson City. We'll see mostly cloudy skies and a high near 50 ahead of a storm system moving into the area by Saturday. Rain and snow showers are possible on the valley floors.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to become a Bee City USA. This completed the efforts of the Great Basin Beekeepers of Nevada and Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space to accomplish this certification.

Besides having to put on an extra layer of clothing and setting the thermostat a couple degrees warmer, conditions outside are what can be expected as we head into 2019: Cloudy to sunny with a continued chill in the air.
