Carson City School Board starts off new year with elections, policy adoptions
The first Carson City School District School Board Meeting of 2019 will be held Tuesday, Jan. 8 in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street, at 7 p.m.
An Election of Officers of the Board of Trustees, including Board President, Vice President, and Clerk will be held to determine who will fill the roles for the new year.
A discussion on the annual authorization for the Carson City School District to apply for and manage federal, state, foundation and private funding will be held relating to:
(a) programs authorized under the Every Child Succeeds Act of 2015
(b) the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act
(c) the Carl Perkins Vocational Education Act
(d) Pre-Kindergarten
(e) Nutrition
(f) Fresh Fruits and Vegetables
(g) Community Development Block Grants
(h) Zoom English Learner Funding
(i) At-Risk Counseling Services
(j) Sate Career and Technical Education
(k) College and Career Readiness
(l) Read by Grade 3
(m) The Great Teachers and Leaders Fund
In addition, trustees will be appointed to serve on committees and associations including:
—Director on the Nevada Association of School Boards
— Alternate Director on the Nevada Association of School Boards
— Member, Carson City Parks & Recreation Committee
— Debt Management Commission
— Partnership Carson City
— Legislative Liaison
— Representative(s) to Superintendent’s Board Policy Review Committee
— Representative(s) to Superintendent’s School Naming Committee
— Representative(s) to Superintendent’s Joint Advisory Committee
— Representative to Carson City Schools Foundation
— Representative to Wellness Committee
— Representative to Student Attendance Review Board (SARB)
— Representative on the Emergency Operations Development Committee
A new Carson City School District policy, Policy 1025, will be discussed, which refers to Prohibition of Workplace Violence.
The Academic Calendar for the 2019-2020 school year will be approved.

Monday, January 14, 2019, Early Release Day for ALL students; classes dismiss
at the following times:
— Pre-K – 12:15 p.m.
— Pioneer High School – 12:50 p.m.
— Carson High School – 1:00 p.m.
— Middle Schools – 1:20 p.m.
— Elementary Schools – 2:00 p.m.
On Monday, Jan. 21, 2019 in recognition of Martin Luther King Day there will be no school.
Thursday, January 17, 2019, Joint Meeting with the Board of Supervisors, Sierra Room, Community Center, 6 p.m.
