Freshman health classes were the first reached in February. The JROTC students and health science classes are next.

Happy Wednesday, Carson City. If you’ve got anything outside that needs doing, the smart money would be on tackling that today. There is a hefty storm brewing and this is the last dry day we’ll see for a little while.

If you know where to look, every day is National something-or-other day. Today gets pancakes, and the International House of Pancakes is celebrating accordingly with a free short stack. It is a fundraiser for the Children’s Medical Network, so leave something for the organization in addition to the tip. CASA, Court-appointed Special Advocates, is always looking for more volunteers to stand up for children. Join them for coffee and find out more about this great organization.

Have you ever been in a situation where you wanted to say something, but you didn’t know how? What does that feel like in your body? Does it feel like a headache, pressing on your chest, or a pit in your stomach? Stating your truth is uncomfortable. But it’s also necessary in order to have authentic relationships with others.

Seniors at Carson High School in Carson City are actively engaged and meticulously rendering their time and talents for the benefit of our community and their future careers.

The CTE program is preparing for the Wednesday, Feb. 28 Career Expo from 6 to 8 p.m. at Carson High School. This event gives Carson City School District students and their parents a picture of the Career & Technical Education options at Carson High School.

Carson High School is exceeding the state average among students who have not only taken college-level Advanced Placement courses, but have excelled in AP exam scores, according figures released Wednesday by the Nevada Department of Education and recently by the Carson City School District.

Don’t think that you have to wait until the weekend to find something to do. Our shiny, ‘new’ library is showing ‘Hidden Figures,’ a movie about NASA during the Space Race, and the black female mathematicians behind the scenes. The Historical Society of Dayton Valley is thrilled to bring an update about their efforts to restore the 1881 Carson and Colorado Railroad Depot. Wired Wednesday is a group of film-makers, photographers, and digital artists that is responsible for the great short film contests throughout the year. They always welcome anyone interested to join their ranks.

I know we were expecting yesterday to be cold, but that was downright bitter. More of the same can be expected, with a possibility of snow tomorrow. Luckily, you’ll find plenty of things to enjoy indoors. All Carson City Democratic registered voters are invited to their caucus on Saturday, Feb. 24 at Eagle Valley Middle school.

In non-presidential years, we hold precinct caucuses to elect delegates to the county convention, who in turn elect delegates to the State Convention. Similarly we nominate county central committee members and state central committee members. Our local precinct caucuses are the bedrock for our Democratic Party.

Registration starts at 9:00AM, Call to Order at 10:00AM. Come participate in the organization of your party and help create a platform based on your local, state and national issues. Delegates to the county convention will be elected by those in attendance.

This Fat Tuesday is full of things to do. Sierra Nevada Forums brings experts from various backgrounds to shed light on difficult and complex topics facing our society.

Whether you’re writing fiction or non-fiction, you can master the steps you need in order to write your book. Each month features an in-depth lesson on a critical writing skill. You are invited to enroll and participate in a variety of fun and informative lessons each month. 

Bring paper and pen, a laptop, or your favorite device for writing. There will be in-class writing practice and opportunities to share and discuss topics in a safe and friendly environment.

You won’t find this Wednesday lacking when it comes to stuff to do, explore, and enjoy. The annual Carson High Talent Show always delights and thoroughly entertains the audience. Comma Coffee is hosting a reception for their newest display, the ‘Break These Chains Live Free’ Art Exhibit, featuring the winning pieces from a high school contest designed to bring awareness to human trafficking. A cute new shop downtown, Rustically Divine, celebrates it’s Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting.

A very happy Tuesday to you, Carson City. You’ll find some great family friendly options today including Storytime Adventures at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada or Family Game Night at Battle Born Social, that also includes a free meal for kids. Father-daughter night at Chili’s restaurant promotes communication and quality time, and will get you a free dessert, as well. Our local Classic Cinema Club features a ‘new’ old flick every month; don’t miss their showing of Casablanca tonight, it’s one of Humphrey Bogart’s best performances.

CARSON CITY — The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada named Mia Liao the 2018 Youth of the Year at its annual awards banquet and kicked off a year of celebration in honor of its 25th anniversary.

U.S. Senate Candidate Danny Tarkanian will be our keynote speaker Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at the Carson City Republican Women's luncheon meeting. He is running against incumbent U.S. Senator Dean Heller. Danny ran his first political race in 2004 for a seat in the Nevada State Senate.

A 30-year-old Carson City man was booked Wednesday into Carson City jail for a felony assault with a deadly warrant and three lesser warrants, a sheriff’s deputy said.

Employers who may be struggling with policies concerning drugs in the workplace after the legalization of recreational and medical marijuana, will benefit from a training Feb. 13 at the Carson City School District Office.

A 51-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Saturday afternoon in Kings Canyon on a U.S. Forest Service road for misdemeanor reckless driving, driving with a suspended and revoked license for DUI, alcohol consumption in public and littering, a sheriff's deputy said.

An 18 year-old Carson City man was arrested for misdemeanor first offense domestic battery Friday after allegedly striking a victim with a set of keys, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.
