Learn about the Basque Culture at the Nevada State Museum. This month’s Family Fun Saturday features presentations and activities. Silver Dollar Car Classic this weekend in Carson City, Hot August Nights in Virginia City

Classic car enthusiasts from Carson City to Virginia City will rev up their engines this weekend for two annual events: The Silver Dollar Car Classic and the Virginia City kickoff to Hot August Nights.

Festivities in Carson City begin Friday at Max Casino, formerly Carson Station, with a street dance, show and shine beginning at 6 p.m. The car show then moves to Mills Park for the weekend.

Registration open for weekend women’s Paddle Board Triathlon at Lake Tahoe

Kaia FIT is hosting its fourth annual Paddle Board Triathlon at El Dorado Beach and the surrounding Al Tahoe neighborhood in South Lake Tahoe this weekend.
“It’s in Lake Tahoe so, of course, it’s absolutely breathtaking,” said Kai FIT owner Nikki Warren. “There’s great music and just a great atmosphere.”

Happy birthday, America! Today we celebrate our independence, and what better way than with a carnival. You might as well stay at Mills Park all day, the fireworks display starts when it gets dark. Tune into Magic 95.5FM and you’ll hear the choreographed music to go along with the oohs and aaahs. Where ever you choose to watch fireworks, please be safe. There are thousands of visitors in the Northern Nevada area this weekend, and law enforcement will be out in full force.

Ceremony opens Carson City Motor Officer Training Challenge, downtown festival

Motorcycle patrol riders from Nevada and California were welcomed by dignitaries Saturday for the opening of the 12th Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge in downtown Carson City.

The event brings dozens of law enforcement officers to Carson City annually to compete in team riding and obstacle courses along Carson Street. Saturday's events will include 2 man tethered riding, 4 man team relay, slow ride, an obstacle course and last man standing.

Downtown Carson City celebrates with Motor Patrol Challenge, Bikes and Brew street party

The inaugural Battle Born 1864 Brews, Bikes and Bubbly Nevada Day Fundraiser and 12th Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge is underway now in downtown Carson City.
Among the motor patrol officers competing from around the region through courses along downtown Carson City streets, there's also classic cars, many local craft brewers and wineries, beer and wine tasting, vendors, food and contests.

This Friday and Saturday the Carson City Sheriff’s Office will host its 12th Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge. During this event Carson Street from Robinson to Musser will be closed as motor officers train with one another on a Peace Officer Standards in Training approved course.

Western Nevada College invites the community to participate in the second annual Journey of Hope Friendship Visit to WNC in Carson City on Friday. Presented by WNC and the Nevada Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities, the event is a stop on a cross-country cycling trip by The Ability Experience, which brings awareness and support to people with disabilities. Festivities run from 5 to 8 p.m.

If its fall season portends what lies ahead, then Western Nevada College’s spring softball season should be teeming with excitement.

As their fall scrimmage schedule winds down, the Wildcats have demonstrated that they are a program on the rise, winning the past seven games. That winning streak has included series sweeps of Shasta College, Feather River College and the Nevada Stealth U-18 club.

Carson City Horseshoe Club celebrates 40th anniversary

The Carson HorseShoe is celebrating 40 years by bringing back some old favorites and starting some new ones.

This August 3 the family-owned and operated HorseShoe Club Casino located in Downtown Carson City, is celebrating their 40th anniversary.

The casino was once owned by Gene Chaney who has since passed away. It is now owned and operated by his five children. Carson City resident Jeannette Chaney Kelley has been the Casino's President for 16 years and her brother Jeff Chaney is the Casino's General Manager.

Carson City Bike Month Bigger Than Ever

May is Bike Month in Carson City, and that means more bike riders out and about, commuting, or riding for fun. In honor of National Bike Month, Muscle-Powered, Citizens for a Walkable and Bikeable Carson City has developed a full schedule of events for 2013, including the Tour de Carson May 5- a 30-mile bike ride for more advanced riders, along with two Family Cruise rides, one on May 15 at 6 p.m. starting at Telegraph Square, and a second Ride with a Vet on May 18 in conjunction with Chapter 388 of the Vietnam Veterans of America.

Celebrate teen drivers and help Carson High School win a $100,000 grant

A celebration designed to promote safe driving habits for teenagers is in the works for Carson City. State Farm is rallying communities nationwide to promote teen driver safety by hosting events such as the one on Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Carson City Farmers' Market at 3rd and Curry Street.
The program, co-sponsored by Western Nevada College, runs from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Events planned for the day will have unique elements and will generate buzz and excitement around teen driver safety.

Downtown Carson City was alive this morning as the Legends of the West Show & Shine and Bike Fest kicked off. Carson Street is closed between Robinson and Musser for the car and motorcycle show. The event features classic cars, food, drinks music and fun.

Part of the event includes the Carson City Sheriff's Office 9th Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge in front of the Carson Nugget. Watch as motorcycle patrol personnel from around the state work their big bikes through an obstacle course.

The event goes on all day until 7 p.m.

Free Family Fitness Fun at Carson High School

A morning of free Family Fitness Fun will be offered on Saturday, Oct. 23 at the Carson High School Gym from 10 a.m. to noon.
The event is sponsored by Carson City ATA, Black Belt Academy and We Can. Activities include martial arts, obstacle course, inline hockey, pad kick, hockey shoot-out, board break, ZUMBA and lots more.
There will be free t-shirts, raffle prizes, food and fun for the whole family. Some of the prizes include a new children's bike, Mt. Rose lift tickets, $5-off at Play it Again Sports Cards, ATA martial arts lessons, and Walmart gift cards.
