Carson City, Quad County COVID-19 Sunday health briefing: 6 new cases, 21 recoveries

Carson City Health and Human Services reports 6 new cases and 21 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region for Sunday, Sept. 27, 2020. This brings the total number of cases to 1,290, with 1,185 recoveries and 16 deaths, 89 cases remain active.

Nevada to receive $13.8 million workforce development grant

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Governor’s Office of Workforce Innovation is the recipient of a nearly $14 million federal grant to support short-term job training programs to help prepare unemployed and underemployed individuals for in-demand occupations in Nevada, Gov. Steve Sisolak announced Friday.

'Clean Up The Lake' removes over 8,000 lbs of trash from Lake Tahoe, Donner Lake

Clean Up the Lake, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, has removed 8,183 pounds of trash from Donner Lake and Lake Tahoe.

Beginning in July 2020, the Clean Up The Lake dive teams completed a circumnavigated SCUBA clean up of Donner Lake, covering every inch of the 8 mile shoreline at depths of 0-25 feet removing all the smaller trash they could find that resulted in 5,151.5 pounds of trash removed from Donner Lake compared to 3,032 pounds of trash removed from the depths of Lake Tahoe.

They have four daughters (Tamara, Tovia, Tracy & Jennifer) eight grand-children and seven great-grandchildren.

DETR: Initial Claims Rise Slightly in Regular and PUA Programs; Continued Claims Decline for 5th Straight Week

Finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) show initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 8,332 for the week ending September 12, up 381 claims, or 4.8 percent, compared to last week’s total of 7,951 claims.

Through the week ending September 12, there have been 686,683 initial claims filed in 2020, 665,031 of which have been filed since the week ending March 14.

16th death reported in the Quad County area from COVID-19

Carson City Health and Human Services (CCHHS) is reporting an additional death due to COVID-19. The individual was a male Lyon County resident in his 80’s with underlying conditions. CCHHS is also reporting eight new cases and six additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County Region.

Goats to graze along Carson City's Clear Creek watershed in fire prevention partnership

NV Energy and Nevada Division of Forestry have partnered to reduce the risk of wildfire in Carson City in the Clear Creek watershed through targeted goat grazing. More than 300 goats from High Desert Graziers in Smith Valley, NV, will be grazing on over 100 acres of private property off of Highway 50 through September and October of 2020 in an extreme wildfire risk area.
