Break a leg, Western Nevada Musical Theater Company! The Broadway musical, Mary Poppins, opens today and is sure to be one of their best productions yet. For those who don’t know their lines, head to Improv at the Brewery Art Center and see what you can come up with on the fly. Brewery Arts Center brings 'Friends with Amazing Voices' to Carson City this Sunday

For the first time, “Friends with Amazing Voices” is bringing their artistry to the Brewery Arts Center’s Performance Hall this Sunday.

game wardens seek help in elk slaying

Nevada game wardens are seeking information about a bull elk that was poached and left to rot near the Pearson Ranch late August in Lincoln County. Operation Game Thief is offering a $2,000 reward to help catch the shooter.

Salvation holiday gift basket registration Friday and Dec. 3

CARSON CITY- The Salvation Army will be providing a Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets to families and individuals in need and toys for children infants to 17 years old. Smoke wafting into Carson City skies from open permit burning and Tahoe controlled fire

A light smoke that began moving into Carson City early Saturday evening may be a result of controlled burn operations on the west shore of Lake Tahoe or open permit burning within the city limits, according to dispatch and the U.S. Forest Service.

Trailer clips power pole along North Carson Street, both lanes now open

UPDATE: Both northbound and southbound lanes of North Carson Street were re-opened for traffic at 11 a.m. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

A large trailer hauling cars and trucks clipped a power pole on North Carson Street Friday morning, temporarily closing the north and southbound lanes. The incident happened at around 9:40 a.m. in the 2500 block. No injuries were reported. Traffic is being rerouted.
Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies, the Carson City Fire Department and NV Energy have responded.

California rubber company to move plastics division to Carson Valley

A rubber and plastic manufacturer will move its plastic division from California to Carson Valley in Douglas County and bring 40 jobs along with it, officials with Northern Nevada Development Authority announced Thursday.

VIP Rubber and Plastic has purchased a building near Johnson Lane and plans a Jan. 4, 2016 opening. The company's main manufacturing facility will remain in La Habra, Calif.

Justin Townsend Named Regional Commissioner of AYSO Soccer

Justin Townsend, associate at Allison MacKenzie Law Firm in Carson City, Nevada, has been named Regional Commissioner of Carson Valley American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO).

Carson Valley AYSO serves youth in Region 318, comprised of Minden, Gardnerville, Genoa, Smith Valley, Topaz, and Wellington, NV and Coleville, Woodfords and Markleeville, CA.

NNDA launches program to help companies expand, acquire property

The Northern Nevada Development Authority announced Wednesday the launch of a new program that is designed to shorten the amount of time it takes for a company to acquire or build a new facility.

The Nevada Certified Site Program as part of their continuing effort to attract more businesses to the Silver State. The program is aimed to provide critical decision making information to business owners and site selectors to allow informed decisions, said NNDA Executive Director Robert Hooper.

SLHS Girl's Golf Team Attends Division III State Meet

On Oct. 12-13, the Sierra Lutheran Girl’s Golf team attended the Division III State Meet in Ely, NV. All of the girls played well; Kami Niles placed 6th overall. This marks the beginning of a great program at Sierra Lutheran, and the students on this year’s roster (three are sophomores, one is a junior) are excited for next year.

'Kick Nic's Cancer' fundraiser Friday and Sunday at Sassafras

Illinois woman identified in crash that killed South Lake Tahoe police officer, wife and injured 4 children

The Nevada Highway Patrol continues its investigation into Saturday's deadly single vehicle rollover on Highway 50 in Churchill County that killed a South Lake Tahoe police officer, his wife, a family friend from Illinois. Four children were also injured.

Senator Square: Students get 'once in lifetime' chance to hear Pearl Harbor vet

About 70 Naval Jr. ROTC students and others had the honor and privileges of listening to a World War II veteran speak at Carson High School on Thursday. Charles Sehe, now 92, was a teenaged sailor on the USS Nevada when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor during World War II.

Power outage affects traffic signals; motorists rerouted from Roop Street to College Parkway

A power outage this afternoon affecting portions of Roop, Emerson Drive and College Parkway has caused traffic signal light issues.
As of 5 p.m. Carson City sheriff's deputies are rerouting motorists from Roop Street to Eastbound College Parkway while southbound Emerson is being rerouted to West College Parkway, said Carson City Sheriff's Sgt. Scott McDaniel.
NV Energy expects to have power restored within an hour, according to dispatch.

Motorists who normally travel in these areas can expect delays.

The outage, which happened this afternoon, has affected 125 NV Energy customers.
