Hello Carson City and welcome to the end of the work week. It is Friday Sept. 7, 2018. Today’s events include an organized walk along Carson City's historic east side, coffee and talk with a supervisor, art showings, a lecture, live standup comedy with Howie Nave at the Carson Comedy Club and plenty of music.

In response to the epidemic of gun violence in America, Carson City resident Nick Fischer will host a die-in at the Nevada Capitol building on Tuesday, June 12 at 12 p.m.

Living the Good Life Nightclub Bistro and Lounge at 1480 North Carson Street is the house that Gina Rohrer built, and it is not for sale.

Carson City isn't particularly known for its night or dance clubs. But one local non-profit group caters to the needs of some residents who like to cut a rug or bust a groove for a good time.

Rick Blaine, who owns a nightclub in Casablanca, Morocco, discovers his old flame Ilsa is in town with her husband, Victor Laszlo.

The Carson City Classic Cinema Club is a non-profit group that meets monthly to enjoy a classic film, delve into American Cinematic history, and raise money to help youth participate in the arts.

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval announced the resignation Monday of Gaming Control Board Chairman A.G. Burnett, effective Dec. 22, 2017. Chairman Burnett has announced plans to join law firm McDonald Carano. A replacement for Chairman Burnett will be named at a later date.

If your costume isn't ready yet, you'll still have plenty of opportunities between now and Oct. 31. A hypnotic fundraiser for Mark Lindquist takes place at Silver Oak Golf Course this evening.

MiXed Company, your favorite local Rock/County/Dance band will perform their debut at Living the Good Life on October 21, 2017, beginning at 8:30pm.

SATURDAY: Chinese New Year

Proscenium Players, Inc. announces open auditions for their upcoming production of Bus Stop, by William Inge. Interested actors are invited to audition on December 9 or December 12 at 6:30pm or on December 11 at 2:00pm at the Brewery Arts Center in the 1864 Ballroom. Performances are slated for weekends from March 24 to April 2, 2017.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the scripts and from sides. To request sides for your audition, please email ppicarsoncity@yahoo.com. All actors selected are expected to join Proscenium Players, Inc. as members.

Happy Birthday Nevada. My favorite holiday has arrived, and with it a mountain of fun to be had. Normally my weekend list is sorted by chronological start time, but for this one I will be separating out the downtown parade related activities for your ease. Hold onto your broomstick, this weekend is bound to sweep you up in Halloween fun. First you’ll need a pumpkin. The Harvest Train Festival and Pumpkin Patch at the Nevada State Railroad Museum is a good place to start. Take the costumed kids to a Trunk or Treat at Advantage Auto Works off Old Hot Springs Road courtesy of the members of Carson Cruise Meet and Greet. Team up with Mark Twain for a ghostly tour of our haunted downtown or you can choose a shorter tour that’s perfect for families. Keep reading, this is just the tip of the candy corn.

Counting down the minutes until the weekend? Your wait is almost over, Carson City. Relax in the Glen Eagle’s Lounge with music by Terri and Craig. Dance the night away with Mo’z Motley Blues at Living the Good Life. For something a little different, check out the Delbert Anderson Trio, a Native American Jazz/Hip Hop Quartet hitting the stage at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint. Get your swing on at Yaple’s Ballroom or sing your heart out at Carson Lanes or Whiskey Tavern. Read on for even more ways to leave the workweek behind you.

FRIDAY:

Downtown Carson City is for sale — parts of it that is — and if you’ve got a spare few million dollars, you could be the proud owner of a historic building or two. After all, not everyone can own a piece of history while becoming a partner in the new downtown.

One night each year, John Street, adjacent to Cafe at Adele’s in Carson City is transformed into an intimate music venue for Concert Under the Stars, and for a few precious moments the air is filled with great music, a lot of love and laughter in order to raise money that continues the The Greenhouse Project’s mission of educating the next generation of farmers and feeding the under served in the community.

We need a break from politics. So, today we begin a series of occasional articles recounting the greatest moments in film: the most heroic, noble, moving, coolest and just plain fun scenes.

Unlike annoying on-line lists that count down from number 25 to number one, we’ll start with: The. Best. Film. Ever. Casablanca, Best Picture of 1942, features the best lifetime performances by nearly everyone in it, plus the most memorable lines and hauntingly romantic love-song theme, “As Time Goes By” sung by Dooley Wilson.

Happy Friday, Carson City. If you haven’t seen it yet, I highly suggest tracking down some tickets for Mary Poppins. The cast and crew of the Western Nevada Musical Theater Co. knock it out of the park with this production. Carson High School’s annual Craft Fair begins tonight; a plethora of crafters, artisans, and vendors will be there to help with your holiday gift list. It’s West Coast Swing night at Yaple’s Ballroom, so put on your dance shoes and kick the weekend off right.

One last weekend until Nevada Day, and the ghosts and ghouls are coming out of the woodwork. Learn our haunted history with the Downtown Ghost Walk. For thrills and chills, don’t miss the Second Annual Carson Creepy Short Horror Film Competition in the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall. High Sierra Swing Dance Club invites the public to its annual Spring Ball dinner-dance on April 25 at the Carson Nugget, 507 N. Carson St. Cost is $35. Hors d’oeuvres and no-host cocktails at 5:30 p.m., dance performances at 6:30, buffet dinner at 7 p.m., open dancing 8 p.m. - 11 p.m. to West Coast swing, nightclub two-step, country two-step, and waltz. Grammy-Award winning singer-song writer Boz Scaggs will bring his timeless and soulful stylings of R&B, jazz, and guitar rock to Lake Tahoe’s MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa over the Memorial Day weekend with a one-night-only show Saturday, May 23.

It’s a great day for the arts in Carson City today. An artist reception honoring Sarah Lillegard will be held at the Nevada Arts Council where her exhibit ‘Second Skin’ is on display. Sande Rowan will share knowledge about baskets around the world in the first of six ‘The Work of Artists’ SENarts events. The Galaxy Theatre brings the Metropolitan Opera back to Carson City this week with an Encore showing of Duke Bluebeard’s Castle, the live showing occurred Saturday morning.

First things first. Valentine’s Day is rapidly approaching, so I’m reminding you to make reservations for your favorite restaurant if you haven’t already. Check out the Carson Mall’s Craft Fair and Gift Sale or any of Carson City’s great shops like Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery, Evergreen Gene’s, Morley’s Books, the Artisan Store at the Brewery Arts Center or Purple Avocado for something special for that special someone.

Today kicks off the second annual International Film Weekend in Carson City. The main event is this evening in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Community Center, a free showing of “Boy.” “Boy” is about a youth coming of age in the Maori culture in New Zealand in 1984.
