Carson City recognized as number one town in America to open small businesses
Carson City has been recognized as the number one town in America to open small businesses, according to a survey done by Advisor Smith, which is based on the number of small businesses being opened in a city compared with their population.
According to the survey, the study focused on businesses that employ at least one paid employee, which excludes entities like financial or real estate holding companies.
The most small-business creation could be found in the west, with the top 7 states for business creation being western states. The top three went to Montana, Washington, and California.
The survey was broken down into small (less than 150K), midsize (150K-500K) and big cities (over 500K), and even though our modest town has always hovered around 60K, we apparently knocked it out of the park.
The number two slot in small cities when to Missoula, MT, followed by Idaho Falls, ID and Wenatchee, WA.
According to the survey, Carson City had 4.61 new businesses per 1,000 residents, which still beat out the rate for midsize and large cities! The second overall for small business creation went to Boulder, CO, with a rate of 4.52 businesses per 1,000 population.
