Arrest made in stabbing overnight at Carson City bar

Carson City and Lyon County Deputies arrested a man suspected in a stabbing that happened early Friday morning at a Carson City bar.

Maxwell Thomas Scott Simon, 32, faces a felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon and is on $30,000 bail, after an altercation at the Whiskey Tavern on Highway 50 East in Carson City, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Man wanted on felony battery charge arrested at Carson City restaurant

A Carson City man wanted on a felony charge of battery causing substantial bodily harm in which the victim suffered severe eye damage was taken into custody Saturday night.
Rico Wiggins, 27, was arrested at around 9:25 p.m. at a restaurant in the 3800 block of South Carson Street, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said. A 28-year-old man, Bryan Gaudette, was also arrested on suspicion of harboring a fugitive, a felony.

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Nov. 10-16, 2014. The Nevada Department of Transportation will be completing road work on Highway 50 from Arrowhead Drive in Carson City to Baldwine Lane in Mound House. Work will be limited to shoulder work.

Final paving begins Tuesday on Highway 50 project from Carson City to Mound House

Final paving work will take place during daytime hours on Highway 50 this week in the Moundhouse area as part of finishing touches on a Nevada Department of Transportation project to enhance the highway.

Between Tuesday and Saturday, Oct. 21-25, lane closures will take place between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Highway 50 between east Carson City and just east of the State Route 341 intersection as the final asphalt paving is placed on the roadway. The paving is temperature sensitive, and will take place during daytime hours, weather dependent, to take advantage of warmer temperatures.

Mountain Biking to Virginia City

Now that Autumn has arrived, it’s a great time to explore the areas east of Carson City. These trails and back roads can be impassable in the winter, muddy in the Spring, and too hot during the Summer. This time of year, though, the dry conditions and mild temperatures make it the perfect time to go. One of our favorite Fall rides is the off-road route up to Virginia City via the American Flat Toll Road. With the area’s fun and lively Old West history, this ride has started to become an annual event.

Robinson Street between Curry and Carson Streets will be open in an eastbound direction only on Monday, Sept. 22, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The road will be closed in both directions on Tuesday, Sept. 23, and Thursday, Sept. 24, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Detours will be provided.

Here is the Carson City area road report for Sept. 15-21, 2014. Beginning Monday through Thursday the Carson City I-580 Freeway will have a single lane closure in the northbound direction due to maintenance between Fairview Drive and Carson Street from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. During this time, the speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph.

Man jailed on felony invasion charge after breaking into day care center, eating bag of chips

A Carson City man was arrested early Saturday morning on a felony home invasion charge after he allegedly broke a window of a day care center, entered the facility and ate a bag of potato chips, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Nathan Richardson, 32, was found inside an East Telegraph day care center after deputies were called at 3:52 a.m. on a report of glass being broken in the area. Arriving officers noticed a man inside the day care center in the kitchen area, and the broken window. The man was eating potato chips near the refrigerator, according to the arrest report.

Carson City auto mechanics celebrate Labor Day weekend with marathon truck rebuild

A retired mechanic from Carson City and some of his friends have pulled out all the stops this Labor Day weekend for a ‘round the clock truck building project that may rival anything done on TV reality shows.

John Jackson’s plan: Refurbish a 1969 Peterbilt 358 into an old school hotrod using parts from six similar rigs. A feat like this would take months if it were a weekend garage hobby and probably cost tens of thousand of dollars.

On Monday, August 25, Telegraph Street will be closed to through traffic between Division Street and Minnesota Street from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Highway 50 crash near Mound House involves gravel truck

A gravel truck has rolled over in the eastbound lane of Highway 50 near Mound House in Lyon County, according to dispatchers. The accident was reported to the Nevada Highway Patrol at 8:10 p.m.

Lyon County fire and rescue were called to the scene of the crash. Highway 50 at Mound House is at a standstill with traffic being re-direct around the crash site, which is in the area between mile markers 1 and 3.

Carson City sheriff's deputies make felony drug arrests involving heroin, meth and pills

A Dayton man was arrested Monday on felony drug charges after paramedics were called to the 1000 block of South Carson Street after the man was initially found slumped over the steering wheel of a running car, clenching money, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Matthew Paul Gonzi, 40, was arrested at 11:07 a.m. on suspicion of possession of controlled substances with intent to sell and possession of methamphetamine, both felonies, and four lessor charges including two failure to appear warrants issued out of Douglas County.

Firefighters battle structure fire in Mound House

UPDATE: The fire earlier this morning that destroyed a home in Mound House appears to be out. A fire marshal has been called to investigate. Firefighters are mopping up. More details will be posted as we learn them.

Western Nevada College graduates record number of students at spring 2014 commencements

Western Nevada College will graduate 543 students this spring. Commencement was held Monday in Carson City with a ceremony to be held Tuesday in Fallon. The class of 2014 will receive a record 581 degrees and certificates.

Also on Monday, the WNC nursing program graduates celebrated with a traditional pinning ceremony at the Carson Nugget. Dr. Tom Kubistant, a WNC psychology and communications instructor, delivered the Carson City ceremony commencement address.

Several drinking related and warrant arrests keep Carson City deputies occupied this weekend

A 37-year-old Carson City man was jailed Saturday after allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol with a small child in the car without a safety seat.

According to the arrest report, a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy observed the man driving and failing to main his lane of travel and changing directions onto the Carson City freeway without using a signal.

The vehicle then was observed going southbound between Highway 50 East and Fairview Drive, drifting over the broken white line and crossing the right fog lane line, the arrest report states.

Safety improvements built into Highway 50 repaving plans between Carson City and Dayton

A $6-plus million repaving project along a stretch of Highway 50 east of Carson City is planned for late spring through summer with some safety improvements built into the plans, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation.

Merge lane improvements, slope flattening, the installation of a t-intersection and turn lanes for easier access at Flint Drive and State Route 341 are scheduled as part of the safety upgrades on Highway 50 between Deer Run Road and east of SR341, said NDOT spokeswoman Meg Ragonese.

Murphy's One-year Rescue Date

Today marks the one-year anniversary of Murphy's hit and run accident on Highway 50 in Mound House.

He is so full of energy and life that it is impossible to tell that his pelvis was shattered in the accident. The love he received from the community during his recovery, he gives back daily.
