Movie Review: 'Hugo' is Scorsese at his best and a holiday treat for all ages

The motion picture "Hugo," now playing at the Fandango Galaxy cineplex in Carson City, is a holiday movie that kids and adults can enjoy. It's Martin Scorsese's homage to film pioneer Georges Méliès, a French innovator who created much of the library of movie techniques back before World War I only to be forgotten amid the strife on combat in France. His films were largely destroyed to make such things as guitar picks.

Movie Review: Just abort 'Apollo 18'

The sci-fi horror film "Apollo 18," currently playing at the Casino Fandango multiplex in Carson City and elsewhere, is a strange bird of a movie. The premise is that while NASA claimed to have scrubbed Apollo 18, it was actually rescheduled as a secret mission to plant Soviet ICBM detectors on the Moon. Three astronauts were selected and briefed and launched.

Alliances, Politics And Honor Trump Policy In Legislative Vote

By Andrew Doughman
CARSON CITY – Assemblyman John Ellison had a choice.
He wanted to push the red button, but he was supposed to push the green button.
The seconds ticked by on the floor of Nevada’s Assembly. In the wide angle shot, the other 41 members eagerly cast their votes. In the close-up shot, Ellison’s hand hovered over the green and red buttons. He hated it, but he punched the green one.
He had made a promise to vote ‘yes,’ and he voted ‘yes’ this time after voting ‘no’ the day before.

Movie Review: 'Fast Five' one hell of a car-crime movie

Whoo, boy, if adventure thrillers are your meat, dine at the Fandango Galaxy cineplex in Carson City where "Fast Five," fifth in the series of "Fast and Furious" is whooping it up. Director Justin Lin has a ball with car chases, crashes, explosions and good crooks vs. bad crooks in Rio de Janeiro.
