The Mile High Jazz Band

Hear sensational big-band music by the Mile High Jazz Band with vocalist Jakki Ford on Tuesday, July 10 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. indoors at Living the Good Life Nightclub-Bistro-Lounge, located at 1480 N. Carson Street in Carson City.

The Mile High Jazz Band Association will have its Annual Membership Meeting on Friday, July 13, 2018, at 6:30 p.m. at the home of David & Elinor Bugli, 191 Heidi Circle, Carson City. The main purpose of the meeting is to elect Board members to fill terms that are opening.

If you didn’t take advantage of early voting, then today is the day to cast that Primary ballot. The local library can be your best friend during summer vacation; Carson City celebrated the kick-off to their summer program on Sunday, while the library in Minden will host a party this evening to get the summer events started. The State Library and Archives have started a new lunchtime program. Join them for Archives Appetizer, a monthly speaker program that will cover different topics of Nevada History. Muscle Powered features two guided hikes on Tuesdays.

Mile High Jazz Band Association, in cooperation with Carson Middle School, presents a five-day Jazz Camp with sessions for middle- and high-school musicians, weekdays June 13-19, in the band room at Carson Middle School, 1140 W. King St., in Carson City.

The Mile High Jazz Band with vocalists Jakki Ford and June Joplin will be joined by six poets and readers for "Oh, Say Can You C?," a lively evening of big-band jazz music and poetry.

It’s Bike Month in Carson City, and the ladies’ Tuesday bike ride up Ash Canyon has returned for the season. You’ll need a helmet and a trail-ready bike if you’d like to join in. A hike up Goni Road with Muscle Powered will be worth the views and a good work-out. Mile High Jazz Band has teamed up with vocalist Jakki Ford for this month’s performance; you’ll find them tonight at Living the Good Life. Mile High Jazz Band Association and Carson City present the 15th Annual Jazz and Beyond Music and Art Festival. It features 17 days of Music, Art, and Film at multiple venues in Carson City, from Aug. 3-19.

Congratulations go out to the Mile High Jazz Band; they’ll be celebrating 17 years of monthly performances during tonight’s gig at Living the Good Life. If you’d like to learn more about drones, those little flying robots, then tonight’s installment of the Sierra Nevada Forum is for you. They’ll be covering the versatility of drones, and fully expect you to be surprised. Chili’s Restaurant welcomes Mother-son duos for a night of quality time. Super-hero costumes are encouraged, and bring a camera, Darth Vader will be there for pictures.

The very talented students in the Carson Middle School Jazz Band have been practicing up a storm to get ready for tonight’s joint performance with the Mile High Jazz Band. Carson Street, is across the street from the state legislature building in Carson City. General admission is $5 at the door; free for age 18 and under.

The Mile High Jazz Band will be joined by Rita Geil and other award-winning poets and readers for an evening of big-band jazz and poetry on Tuesday, December 12, 2017, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., at Comma Coffee. General admission is $5 at the door, and free for age 18 and under.

It’s time for Tuesday. Every week you’ll find a new trail to discover with Muscle Powered; this week it’s the Linear Ditch Trail which runs from Governors Field to the Moffet Open Space Trail. Jakki Ford takes the mic when the Mile High Jazz Band hits the stage at Comma Coffee. Sierra Forums gives free presentations on a diverse blend of topics with area experts. Sustainable Living is the subject of tonight’s forum at the Brewery Arts Center.

What a day we have in store. Sure, it’s off to school for the kids in Carson City, but this will be a day to remember for another reason, the solar eclipse. A huge swath of our country will see a total solar eclipse, but here in Carson City, only 81 percent of totality will be achieved. That means there is NO time that you can look at the sun without risking injury. I repeat: do NOT look directly at the sun. The Jazz and Beyond Music Festival bids farewell to another year with a free concert in McFadden Plaza featuring the talented members of the Mile High Jazz Band.

The Jazz and Beyond festival committee announced Thursday the winner of the 2017 poster and program cover art contest is William Smith, a member of the Nevada Artists Association.

The Mile High Jazz Band Association will hold a two-part jazz workshop/masterclass on Tuesday, February 28, at Carson Middle School, 1140 W. King Street. The afternoon session, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., is for student jazz musicians. The evening session, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., is for advanced through professional level musicians.
