Mile High-Carson High Jazz Extravaganza

It's "big-band jazz times two" when the Mile High Jazz Band presents the eighth annual Mile High-Carson High Jazz Extravaganza, on Friday, January 21, 2011, 8:00 p.m., at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King Street, Carson City. The concert, sponsored by the Brewery Arts Center and the Mile High Jazz Band Association, is a benefit for the Carson High Jazz Band programs.

Stocking Up: Holiday Jazz and Poetry at Comma Coffee

The Mile High Jazz Band and vocalist Sheryl Adams will be joined by Rita Geil and other award-winning poets for an evening of big-band jazz and poetry reading at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson St., 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. The theme of the evening, "Stocking Up," relates to the holidays and to life. Admission: $5 at the door/FREE age 18 and under. 'November Jazz' at Comma Coffee

The Mile High Jazz Band will perform "November Jazz," a program of big-band jazz at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson Street on Tuesday, Nov. 9 beginning at 8 p.m. General admission is $5 at the door; free for age 18 and under. Dance instruction, 6-7:15 p.m. is $5 additional.

Carson City Mint Coin Show strikes silver and gold at Nevada State Museum

Collectors from as far as Florida and New York are in Carson City this weekend to gawk and potentially buy priceless pieces of historic minted coins and printed paper money in what has become a must-attend event for serious numismatists.

Carson City Mint Coin Show at the Nevada State Museum

The Carson City Mint Coin Show at the Nevada State Museum will be Aug. 27-28 and offers something for everyone. Held both days from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the show features over 30 dealers, free appraisals and kids activities.

“From fabulous raffles prizes to numismatic education and gold panning, this year’s coin show promises to be fun for the whole family,” said Curator of Education, Deborah Stevenson. “With the price of gold going sky-high, all of us should take up panning for gold.”

Big weekend in Carson City for jazz fans

Jazz Carson City 2010 will wind up this weekend with a Friday night appetizer followed by a Saturday and Sunday blowout.

It’s all under the umbrella of the Mile High Jazz Band, which offers a five-singer tribute to Count Basie Saturday night from 8 to 10 p.m. at the 3rd Street site.

Free Carson City jazz concerts today at Legislative Plaza amphitheater

The summer sizzles and Sunday is no exception with Jazz! Carson City. The Mile High Jazz Band Association, Carson City, local businesses, and jazz lovers proudly continue the annual August jazz festival that began in 2004. Admission is free, and parking at the garage on Stewart and Fifth streets is also free. Bring a picnic and blanket and enjoy the music.

Winging It: A Night of Jazz and Poetry at Comma Coffee

The Mile High Jazz Band and vocalist Sheryl Adams will be joined by award-winning poet Rita Geil and six other readers for a lively evening of big-band jazz music and poetry on Tuesday, June 8. The topic of the evening, "Winging It", will be presented at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson Street in Carson City, 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is $5 general and free for age 18 and under. Dance instruction from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. is $5 additional.
