Community of Thanks: Lyon County Schools served over 178K meals during distance learning

Beginning on March 16, 2020, Lyon County School District students and the students of all Nevada schools were asked to stay home — a measure taken by our government leadership in response to the world health crisis surrounding the COVID-19.

With the uncertainty surrounding how long the stay-at-home distance learning would be in place, LCSD Nutrition Services and LCSD Transportation quickly devised a plan to keep the children of the Lyon County community fed —this included any child under the age of 18, even if they were not a student of LCSD.

Douglas County valley schools are operating on a 90-minute delay, according to the Douglas County School District web site, and the morning early childhood program is canceled for Carson Valley schools.

Zephyr Cove Elementary School is closed today for a snow day.

Carson City area school closure and delay report

Students in the Carson City School District will enjoy a snow day on their Monday off as district staff attend professional development today.

School district spokesman Dan Davis said the professional development day will start on schedule; although weather will continue to be monitored for hazardous travel conditions.

The Nevada Highway Patrol reports slick road conditions on highways throughout western Nevada and Sierra on Wednesday morning. The Nevada Department of Transportation is clearing and sanding roads between Carson Valley, Carson City and Reno as well as along Highway 50.
