The Nevada Day Treasure Hunt Medallion has been found; clues explained for $1,000 prize

Hello seekers! Our medallion has been found, and a hearty congratulations to winners Penny, Kimberly and Melissa Russell! This team found the medallion at the Mason Valley Wildlife Management Area just outside Yerington. Did you have a good time hunting? I was way off, but I always like the hunt itself! Mr. Thomas A. Bohemier, 74, of Brooksville, Florida passed away peacefully with his wife and children by his side on October 11, 2020.

Carson City Humane Society's Pet of the Week: Chugg

Happy Friday Carson City! Pet of the Week has been on hiatus for a little bit, but for a good reason: there were no animals at the shelter for adoption!

However, say hello to Chugg, who is our adorable Pet of the Week today.

Chugg came to The Nevada Humane Society in Carson City on the 29th of September, 2020 when he was found as an injured stray.  

They have doctored this shy but sweet boy up and he is ready to find his forever home.

Citizen Science Drives Environmental Restoration and Preservation in Tahoe-Truckee

Volunteer citizen scientists working with the League to Save Lake Tahoe conducted surveys of Donner and Spooner Lakes to detect aquatic invasive species, and restored native wetland habitat in Johnson Meadow in September. Nevada governor proclaims Vegas Strong Day; orders flags lowered in honor of shooting victims

Gov. Steve Sisolak has recognized Thursday, Oct. 1 as “Vegas Strong Day in Nevada” and ordered Nevada State flags be flown at half-staff at all State public buildings in tribute to the victims of the October 1, 2017, shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival in Las Vegas.

Maddie’s Adoption Days finds 280 pets ‘furever’ homes from Carson City, Reno shelters

The Nevada Humane Society reported that during its 3-day adoption event, they adopted out a total of 280 pets between their Carson City and Reno locations.

Keith and Gwen Thompson are celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2020. They both grew up and met in Price, Utah. They moved to Gardnerville two years ago from Kamiah, Idaho.

They have four daughters (Tamara, Tovia, Tracy & Jennifer) eight grand-children and seven great-grandchildren.

They've had 70 wonderful years together and continue to enjoy life!

Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days offers free dog and cat adoptions at participating Nevada animal shelters

Former Gov. Brian Sandoval picked as University of Nevada, Reno’s next president

RENO — At a special Nevada System of Higher Education meeting held Thursday, the Board of Regents announced the appointment of former Gov. Brian Sandoval as the University of Nevada, Reno’s next president. He becomes the first Hispanic and 17th president of the 146-year-old University.

Gov. Sandoval, who is currently a Distinguished Fellow of Law and Leadership at UNLV’s William S. Boyd School of Law among other endeavors, will begin Oct. 5, 2020 and serve a 4-year contract.

Carson City Mayor Robert 'Bob' Crowell dies

Carson City Mayor, attorney and Vietnam veteran Robert L. "Bob" Crowell died overnight. He was 74.

Robert L. "Bob" Crowell was a native Nevadan, born in the mining town of Tonopah and raised in Carson City. An attorney by profession, Bob was a Vietnam Veteran and retired Navy Captain. He was elected Mayor of Carson City in 2008 and assumed his duties as Mayor on January 5, 2009. He was re-elected in 2012 and 2016. Prior to being elected Mayor, Bob served 11 years on the Carson City School Board of Trustees.
