Lake Tahoe area ski resorts look for winter employees; to host job fairs Nov. 6-7

Heavenly Mountain Resort, Northstar California Resort and Kirkwood Mountain Resort are accepting applications and will host job fairs in November.

The Lake Tahoe resorts, under parent company Vail Resorts, says it will, for the first time, hire teens 15 and over who wish to work on the mountain. Teens can apply for jobs such as cashiers, ski and snowboard school teachers’ assistants, guest services representatives, parking attendants, cleaning attendants, ticket sales and scanning.

Mother Nature has left a swath of new snow at Lake Tahoe ski resorts this week. The snow arrived in time for Carson City spring breakers to hit the slopes.
Kirkwood Mountain Resort received 2 feet snow Tuesday and overnight into Wednesday morning with a seven day new-snow total of 28 inches.

Lake Tahoe ski resorts kiss dismal February goodbye with blanket of new snow

A winter storm that wasn’t necessarily supposed to pack a big punch did, sort of, bringing a foot or more of much-needed snow around Lake Tahoe area ski resorts Friday and Saturday.

In what has been a dismal season where resorts have retooled the layers of snow they do have and producing as much as they can with snow making machines, the last day of February 2015 brought out droves of skiers and new hope for a so-called "Miracle March" in the Sierra, where late winter systems have historically pummeled Lake Tahoe with several feet of snow.

Heavenly, Northstar expand terrain for Thanksgiving holiday weekend

Heavenly Mountain Resort and Northstar California Resort will expand terrain for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, officials announced Wednesday.

Heavenly will open Orion on Thursday, an intermediate run accessed off Dipper Express, boosting the open terrain to 2.3 skiable miles. During the holiday weekend, beginning on Thursday, Heavenly will open daily at 8:30 a.m. Heavenly will also provide the tubing hill as additional beginner terrain.

Heavenly, Northstar to Turn Lifts Friday; Kirkwood Continues to Prepare

Tahoe South tunes up for winter with epic $100 million resort-to-recreation renaissance

With more than $100 million in revitalization efforts this year, a mountain of changes are underway at Tahoe South, the “No. 1 Ski Destination” (USA Today 2014), providing more upscale lodging, entertainment, shopping, skiing and outdoor recreation for the 2014-15 winter season.

The resort-to-recreation renaissance includes the planned winter opening of the $60 million remodel of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe, $24 million remodel of MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa, $3 million at Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel and $15 million for the Château shopping center across from Heavenly Village.

Lake Tahoe area ski resorts host job fairs through October

More than 3,400 seasonal employees are needed by Vail Resorts for the upcoming ski season at their Lake Tahoe resorts Heavenly, Kirkwood and Northstar. Three job fairs will be held in October where perspective employees can meet with resort personnel and have interviews.

This first job fair will be held on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Red Cliffs Lodge at Kirkwood Mountain Resort.

Job seekers are invited to have an experience of a lifetime this winter in Lake Tahoe as Heavenly Mountain Resort, Northstar California Resort and Kirkwood Mountain Resort hire a combined total of 2,300 seasonal employees for the 2013-2014 winter season.

Heavenly will hire 800 seasonal employees. Northstar will hire 1,100, and Kirkwood will hire 400. Three job fairs are scheduled throughout October, giving candidates an opportunity to meet with managers and find the best-suited jobs.

With less than 100 days until the beginning of the 2013-2014 Lake Tahoe ski and ride season, now is the time to purchase the best-valued season pass to Tahoe’s three premier mountain destinations, Heavenly, Kirkwood and Northstar. The Tahoe Local and Tahoe Value Passes offer access to more than 263 trails, 14 terrain parks and 10,270 acres all on one pass; but the current season pass prices are only guaranteed through September 2, 2013.

Gov. Sandoval appoints Lake Tahoe ski industry stalwart, Reno basketball team partner to Tourism Commision

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval on Tuesday appointed John Wagnon of Vail Resorts and Herb Santos, Jr. to the Nevada Commission on Tourism. The terms are effective immediately.

Wagnon, a 40-year veteran of the snowsports industry, is senior director of brand marketing for Vail Resorts, Inc at Heavenly Mountain Resort south shore Lake Tahoe and Kirkwood Mountain Resort.

He has served on the on the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, Ski Lake Tahoe and the California Travel Industry Association boards. Wagnon is also a trustee and past chairman of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority Board.

More than 3.5 feet of new snow at Lake Tahoe ski resorts

It might have been raining across much of Northern California, but last week’s storm brought snow to Lake Tahoe ski resorts – more than 3.5 feet of the white stuff, making for a great ski weekend.

“You just never know how these storms are going to play out,” said Chief Marketing Officer Andy Chapman of the North Lake Tahoe Chamber/CVB/Resort Association. “But Mother Nature cooperated and we’ve got new snow on the mountains.”

Early season Lake Tahoe snow prompts Heavenly, Northstar and Kirkwood to open early

Powerful early-season storms combined with the area’s largest and most advanced snowmaking operations have allowed Vail Resorts’ Lake Tahoe mountains – Heavenly Mountain Resort, Northstar California Resort and Kirkwood Mountain Resort – to open early with 111 acres. Heavenly and Northstar will open on Wednesday, Nov. 14 with a combined seven lifts and eight trails, totaling 51 acres.

Job fairs set as Heavenly and Kirkwood look to hire 2,250 workers for ski season

Imagine working at the place where you normally play. Heavenly Mountain Resort and Kirkwood Mountain Resort in Lake Tahoe are giving candidates that opportunity by hiring 1,500 employees and 750 employees, respectively, for the 2012-13 winter season. On Saturday, October 20, the annual job fair will be held jointly for Heavenly and Kirkwood at the California Main Lodge at Heavenly from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
