Drive to assist Carson City area families with free, gently used school clothes

The Relief Society local women’s organization of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints hosts its ninth annual clothing drive to assist families in the Carson City, Minden, Gardnerville, and Dayton, Nevada communities to obtain clothes for school.

Sierra Nevada Youth Optimist Club host robotics camps at WNC July 17th – July21st.

Members of the Sierra Nevada Youth Optimist Club will be hosting robotics camps at Western Nevada College July 17th – July21st.
There will be two separate sessions to meet the needs of different ages: the morning session (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM) will be targeted to grades K - 4th and will use the LEGO WeDo robotics kits; the afternoon session (1:00 PM - 4:00 PM) will be targeted to grades 4th - 8th and will use the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 robotics kits.

Carson City area veterans encouraged to sign up for 'VIPS for Vets' program

Attention veterans: The RSVP program in Carson City and the Carson City Sheriff’s Office have partnered for a new program called “VIPS for Vets.”

Carson High's Future Health Professionals to represent Nevada at international conference

Carson High School Career and Technology Education Health Occupation Student Association Future Health Professionals, a career and technical student organization, is sending 29 students to the HOSA International Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla., June 20-25. The students will represent CHS, as well as the Carson City community and the state of Nevada in various medical competitions.

NDOT finishes Franktown Road drainage improvements, paving to begin in late summer

The single lane closures currently in place on Franktown Road (State Route 877) in Washoe Valley will be removed Friday, June 9 as the Nevada Department of Transportation finalizes roadside drainage and other improvements. The lane closures will return in late summer as the road is repaved.

Get Ready For School: Free Gently Used Clothing, Open to the Public

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints hosts its ninth annual clothing drive to assist families in the Carson City, Minden, Gardnerville, and Dayton, Nevada communities to obtain clothes for school. The annual event provides gently used clothing free of charge.

The event focuses on school-aged children K thru 12. We invite families to pick up free clothing for all age groups to prepare for school on Saturday, July 29, 2017, from 8:00 a.m. to noon. The church is located at 411 N. Saliman Road, Carson City, Nevada, just south of Carson High School.

I really hope I’m not required to choose a favorite event. I would be hard pressed to choose between the Nevada Day Parade and the annual Taste of Downtown. Luckily, I can adore them both, and for much the same reason. They are a celebration of community, of Carson City, of our historic downtown and all that it has to offer. In addition to 'The Taste', the Brewery Arts Center goes country with the Southern Drawl Band on its outdoor stage, and Madam Curry leads another downtown Ghost Walk.
