Over the line: Carson City woman arrested for allegedly throwing rocks at protesters
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sat, 07/03/2010 - 11:29pmThere was a disturbance near the Legislature Building Saturday afternoon in Carson City. A woman who was apparently angry at some political signs, allegedly threw rocks at three demonstrators.
The news that came across the scanner this July 3 afternoon was that there was a fight involving "protesters" in front of the Legislative Building. Given the political climate these days, it was worth following up.

The Roop Street widening project will continue this week with the following impacts expected:
— Effective Thursday, July 8, Roop Street will be closed to through traffic from William Street to Robinson Street. This closure will last until Sept. 1.
—The intersection of Caroline Street and Roop Street will be closed to through traffic from Thursday, July 8 through Sept. 1. Traffic may cross Roop Street at Washington Street.

Submitted by on Tue, 06/29/2010 - 4:25pmCARSON CITY – It may be welcome news for those who have entry level jobs, but a more than 9 percent hike in the minimum wage to take effect Thursday in Nevada will have a chilling effect on hiring, particularly for teens, according to one national group.
A Nevada union official disagrees, saying the minimum wage hike isn’t to blame for the state’s record jobless rate or the high unemployment levels seen among teens in the workforce.
New Nevada minimum wage and overtime rules begin Thursday

For employees to whom qualifying health benefits have been made available by the employer, the wage will be no less than $7.25 per hour. For all other employees, the new prevailing wage is no less than $8.25 per hour.
