Journey of Hope riders arrived at Western Nevada College in Carson City on Friday with the enthusiasm and support of the capital city community. The group of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity members bike ride across the country each year to bring awareness and support to people with disabilities.

Events, happenings around the Carson City region during Father's Day weekend

Heading into Father’s Day weekend, there's plenty of jam-packed activities around the Carson City region. There's Flag Day ceremonies at the Nevada Veterans Memorial and at the Elks Lodge. The Stewart Father’s Day Powwow happens Friday to Sunday and features hundreds of American Indian dancers, drummers artists and cultural enthusiasts. Lace up the tennis shoes for the Eastside Historical tour of the capital city hosted by Muscle Powered. Journey of Hope returns to Western Nevada College at 5 p.m. to settle into the evening. Open Mic Night at A to Zen will cap-off an eventful Friday heading into the weekend.

Fraternity team to stop in Carson City during 4,730 mile bike ride

The Journey of Hope North team arrive in Carson City as part of a 4,370-mile summer-long journey from San Francisco to Washington, D.C. on Saturday, August 10. The team will dedicate their summer to supporting people with disabilities through grant funding and community engagement. This group of 22 cyclists and six crew members is one of three Journey of Hope teams cycling across the country. This event, organized by The Ability Experience, is now in its 32nd year.

Friday fun in Carson City and beyond: Fathers’ Day PowWow and a bicycle invasion

Carson City again welcomes the Fathers’ Day PowWow to the Stewart Indian School Campus for a weekend of dancing, vendors and crafts, and community. Now, when I say bicycle invasion, I’m not exaggerating. The Carson City Off-Road hosted by Epic Rides brings mountain bike enthusiasts from all over to compete in our hills. You’ll find downtown road-closures to make way for the race routes, a bike expo, beer garden, and a music festival on Saturday. Head up to Western Nevada College to welcome the Journey of Hope Bike Tour.

After a 35 mile bike ride from Lake Tahoe, the Journey of Hope made a brief stop Friday at Western Nevada College in Carson City. A group of 29 cyclists from Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity were welcomed by dozens of volunteer organizations throughout the community.

The Journey of Hope team will be arriving in Carson City on Friday June 16th for a visit with the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada and The Nevada Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities.

This overnight stop comes after a 35-mile ride from Lake Tahoe, Calif., the sixth day of a 3,720-mile cycling event across the country. The team will dedicate their summer to enhancing the lives of people with disabilities through grant funding and community engagement.

Cross-country cyclists make Boys and Girls Club stop ahead of Friday night WNC celebration

Members of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity rolled into Carson City Friday as part of a cross-country bicycling tour — Journey of Hope — to support people with disabilities. The bikers made a quick stop at the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada on Friday and have now pedaled their way to Western Nevada College for an evening filled with events and entertainment.

It's Friday, Carson City. Epic Rides descends on our valley, and I must say, it is one epic event. Beware that quite a few of our downtown streets will be closed and there will be bikes everywhere. Live music can be found at a stage on Musser Street, the Brewery Arts Center, and most all of our casinos. A huge welcome goes out to those in town for the Annual Pow Wow at Stewart Indian School. Don't forget that Fathers' Day is Sunday: plenty of our local shops have something just perfect for the man in your life.

Carson Tahoe Cancer Center, an affiliate of Huntsman Cancer Institute, University of Utah, is hosting an art show through Friday, Dec. 18. Journey of Hope Cyclists receive warm Carson City welcome at WNC

Cyclists with Journey of Hope, a Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity’s national philanthropy effort to serve people with disabilities, made a stop Friday in Carson City and Western Nevada College as part of its cross-country bicycle trek that began in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Seattle, which will ultimately conclude later this summer in Washington, D.C.

The weather app on my phone says that it’s supposed to be a sunny weekend hitting a high around 91 degrees. That sounds like summer to me! Get out and enjoy our valley and the surrounding towns, there will be plenty of good times. Carson Valley Days has begun in our neighbor to the south, complete with carnival at Lampe Park. Tonight, welcome a new exhibit in the CCAI Gallery at the Courthouse: a reception for the artists of ‘Industrial Arts’ begins at 5 p.m. Meet the Journey of Hope bike riders at Western Nevada College; plenty of activities for everyone.

Push America Cyclists to Visit Western Nevada College

Western Nevada College and the Nevada Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities will host a ‘Journey of Hope’ Celebration Friday, June 6, for 35 bicyclists traveling from San Francisco to Washington, D.C. to support those with disabilities. This is a community event free and open to the public from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Carson City campus. Food, speakers, music, dancing, karaoke and a free raffle will entertain, and flu/T-dap shots and disability resource information tables will inform visitors.

WNC hosts social gathering Friday for Journey of Hope cyclists

Western Nevada College and the Nevada Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities will host a Journey of Hope Celebration on Friday in Carson City for 35 cyclists who are riding from San Francisco to Washington, D.C., to support those with disabilities.

Friday’s free social gathering, which promotes disability awareness and community education, is open to the public and runs from 5 to 8 p.m. in front of the Dini Student Center at WNC.
