Spring break week is winding to a close, and it’s ending on a soggy note. More of the wet stuff is on its way, but don’t let that stand in the way of a good time. Laugh it up with magician and comedian Brad Bonar Jr. at Carson Comedy in the Nugget. Break a leg to the Proscenium Players. Their spring production, ‘Bus Stop,’ opens tonight in the Brewery Arts Center Black Box Theater. The whole family is welcome at the DHS Boosters Bingo Night at Dayton High tonight; help them raise funds for this year’s Safe and Sober Grad Night.

Today is a day to give big. A one day fundraising drive for our favorite non-profit charities is happening right now, whether it’s animals, arts. Kids, veterans, or the environment. Thursdays also mean a fun night at Jimmy G’s Karaoke. The Trippin King Snakes help celebrate everyone with a March birthday at the Cigar Bar (AKA Carson Cigar Co.) If you have a two wheeled mistress, the Bike Night at Battle Born Harley may be up your alley.

THURSDAY:

Bet your bottom dollar that it will be a great weekend. Wild Horse Children’s Theater finishes up its spring production of ‘Annie, Jr: The Musical,’ so don’t miss your chance to catch these talented kids on stage. Muscle Powered will be out and about for their monthly Trash Mob and invite you to help clean up a little corner of our valley. The Annual Polar Plunge at Zephyr Cove is a brave way to help the Special Olympics raise money, and the costumes get wilder every year. Keep reading and enjoy the weather before the clouds return.

SATURDAY:

Irish eyes are smiling on us: it’s going to be a gorgeous day. You won’t have to look far for some green beer, whiskey, or corned beef – there will be St. Patrick’s Day parties all over. Live music is on the menu, as well. Choose from Men of Worth at the Brewery Arts Center, an all ages punk show at Sassafras, or Stereo Galaxy in the McFadden Plaza, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The brave ones will be at the St. Baldrick Fundraiser at Red’s Old 395 where you’ll see some heads shaved for a good cause. Where ever you end up, just make sure you have a plan to get home safely.

Now that the sun has come out, the month is just flying by. St Patrick’s Day is tomorrow, with the first day of spring on Monday. Find some new art to love at the Artsy Fartsy Artist Meet and Greet. With two story times and Lego Club today, the Carson Library has your little ones covered. Treat yourself to dinner out and lend a hand to the Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation with the Give Back Event at Chili’s. Get that chopper out of the garage and head over to Battle Born Harley for Bike Night with beer pong, pool, and more.

What’s this? A weekend with no snow in sight? That’s the best news I’ve heard in months. Welcome to the wrestlers and swimmers who are in town for their respective tournaments: you’ll find other fun things on this list to occupy your downtime. It’s a St. Patty’s celebration in Virginia City this weekend with the parade, Rocky Mountain Oyster Fest, and Ball Buster Saloon Crawl. Bragging rights are on the line at the Sixth Annual Thirsty Boy Homebrew Competition sponsored by Just Brew It. You’ll get a sneak peek at the soon-to-open Shoe Tree Brewery if you attend the award ceremony.

Our favorite red-headed orphan sings that ‘the sun’ll come out tomorrow.’ Luckily we don’t have to wait: for the sunshine or for the Wild Horse Children’s Theater’s production of Annie, Jr. You’ll find the musical at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall this weekend and next. Many beautiful sunny days are ahead of us. I’m sure we haven’t seen the last of the rain and snow, but as the days get longer, it’s easier to be optimistic that spring is on its way. Take advantage of the weather with today’s Muscle Powered Easy Hike. Meet photographer Abe Blair at the Nevada State Museum tonight. Admission is free for the celebration of his exhibit, Beyond Nature’s Light. Head to Carson Cigar Company for a Sake Party with premium sake, raffle prizes, and something delicious to snack on.

A fundraiser will be held Saturday, March 11 at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar in Carson City to help cover costs with the inaugural Carl Howell Memorial Music Festival this summer at Battle Born Harley-Davidson in Carson City.

This time next month our downtown will be in full bloom, but there’s plenty of cheer no matter what the season. The monthly Downtown Business Association’s monthly Wine Walk marches right along: rain or shine, wind or snow (or a combination of them all.) Grab your friends, a coat, and see what kind of fun blows your way.

What a great start to March. A few days on sunshine under our belt and now it’s wine walk weekend. With fingers crossed, the weather should hold out until it’s over, but be prepared for some wind. The Shrine Circus is in Reno, Girl Scout Cookies are on sale, and we inch closer to the longer days and shorter nights of Spring. It’s a great day for the kids with the Kerak Shrine Circus in Reno, cookie decorating at Genoa Candy and Coffee, and a Father-Daughter Dance at Dayton High School. Show some love to Carson High Senior Amber Reeves: she’s displaying her photography at the Brewery Arts Center for her Senior Project. Carson City Arts Gallery introduces their monthly Artist Reception tonight by welcoming Kathleen Osborne Flanagan. The nightlife tonight features music, karaoke, dancing, comedy and more. The Nevada Arts Council has been displaying Las Vegas artist, Gig Depio, in their Gallery for the last several weeks and he will be here tonight for a reception and short talk about his work. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for clear skies, but there are rumors of snow flurries. Luckily there are indoor and outdoor activities, no matter what blows our way. At the top of the list for today is Winter, Wine, Spirits, and All That Jazz at the Brewery Arts Center. Their annual fundraiser is not to be missed.

Even if the weather doesn’t agree, there is a spring thaw in our midst. Carson City is picking up the pace, and there’s fun to be had all over. You’ll always find a great comedian at the Carson Nugget on Fridays: this week it’s funnyman Steve Bruner. Head to Sassafras for a fun time with Sacramento indy band, Poindexter. Fingers crossed, we’ve got a few days without the wet stuff. This winter seems like the song that never ends. We received late word that Saturday's monthly Trash Mob has been canceled. The good news is there's a day-long music fest at the Carson Colony Gym on South Curry is fundraising for the DAPL Water Protectors. Music, art, cinema, comedy and more are on tap for this weekend. As the three-day Presidents' Day weekend begins, Carson City has much to offer. Carson Comedy does a double-dose tonight with Rick D’Elia at the Carson Nugget and Craig ‘The Lovemaster’ Shoemaker at the Brewery Arts Center. World Dance Open Floor at Comma Coffee is like an open mic for dancers. Travel the world with the annual International Film Weekend at the Community Center; it's free and also features local Independent films. Karaoke, live music, dancing and more round out tonight's options.

FRIDAY:

Windy, rainy days are excellent for watching movies. Luckily, the International Film Weekend kicks off today with Chinese film, ‘Wolf Totem,’ in the Community Center Theater. Show up at 3 p.m. if you want to be wowed by some independent films from students at the UNR Reynolds School of Journalism.

Happily ever after is usually dismissed as a Disney movie ending, but bring your Mickey Mouse knowledge to the Carson Library for a family friendly trivia night. Jazz in on the menu at Living the Good Life, in addition to some delicious dinner options. Learn what a Gibson Girl of the Victorian era did to get her classic silhouette at the Dayton Historical Society meeting. If everything goes as planned, the sun will finally make an appearance. That’s good news for those running in the Carson High Safe and Sober 5K or in Ascent Runs’ Love Can Be Cold 5/10K at Prison Hill. If you’d rather avoid the mud, check out the Champagne and Jewelry Show inside the bigger better Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery. Please be careful, drive safely, and keep an umbrella handy. Keep your fingers crossed this storm passes quickly – a full moon and lunar eclipse at sunset are visible to those without cloudy skies.

I just keep telling myself that the spring flowers will be amazing this year, but honestly, I’m growing weary of all this rain. Several of our hiking and bike trails have been affected, the sports fields are a muddy mess, and we are still in danger of more flooding.

The week is moving along and we are getting closer to Valentine’s Day. Don’t forget to make reservations for dinner with your sweetheart. If your loved one is an art lover, take a look inside the new Wild Horse Gallery at the Carson Mall: their grand opening is this evening. Artist Eric Holland is featured at the Rinckel Mansion and will be present for a reception tonight. Grab your thinking cap and your smartest friends for Geeks Who Drink trivia at Westside Pour House. Vocalist Jakki Ford is the guest vocalist for the jazz jam at Living the Good Life.

WEDNESDAY:

Area you ready for some football? North, south, east, west, or downtown: there’s a good time to be found: drink specials and football squares everywhere. If you couldn’t care less about the Patriot-Falcons match-up, then consider BINGO for CASI or bowling and some Valentine cookie decorating. Several new art exhibits are opening tonight, so make the rounds to the CCAI Courthouse Gallery, the Carson City Visitor Center, and Paradise Salon Spa Wellness if you want to hit them all.

After all the wind and snow, I’m absolutely in the mood for an early spring. Let’s just hope that the groundhog can’t find his shadow today.
