Christmas tree cutting permits in the Lake Tahoe Basin go on sale Monday

Permits are $10 each with a limit of two permits per family. Permits must be purchased in person, are not transferable and are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

CCAI Industrial Art at the Library

The show, previously at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery, will be available at the Library through November 19.
The Library will host a public reception for Industrial Art on Friday, October 2, 3:30-5pm in honor of Manufacturer's Month [October]. The Library’s MT1 training room and the Digitorium will also feature students’ manufacturing activities during the open house event.

Nevada wildlife wardens euthanize second Lake Tahoe black bear this week
Submitted by editor on Fri, 08/28/2015 - 4:08pmFor the second time this week and fifth time this year a black bear was euthanized because it was seen as a threat to public safety, the Nevada Department of Wildlife said Friday.
A yearling female bear, about 18 months of age, was trapped during the evening hours between Thursday night and Friday morning in the Kingsbury area of Douglas County, located on Lake Tahoe’s south shore.

The report, which tracked all transactions through 2014, concluded that the Lake Tahoe-based agency had $939,547,242 in residential sales volume last year, making it the top producing agency in the region, and number 183 in the nation overall. The figure was an increase from 2013, which saw a volume of $865,000,000.

An officer arrived at the location for a repeat domestic disturbance call, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Carson City sheriff’s weekend arrest log: Several booked for DUI charges

Andre Anthony Franklin, 22, was found to be in possession of a master card debit card with a woman’s name on it.
The woman, who is also an inmate at Carson City Jail, said only one person was supposed to have the card and when she learned it was lost, the card was canceled and she was given a new one.
Tahoe Home Featured on May 27 HGTV House Hunters program

Travis and Morgan Fields of Oakland were working with Chase International’s Angie Clark last spring when they decided to invite the show to follow them on their quest. HGTV producers and a film crew came out to Tahoe to film the couple on their South Lake Tahoe search. The episode, titled“Looking for a Log Cabin Vacation Home in Lake Tahoe” will air Wednesday, May 27 at 7 p.m. It will air again through the weekend.
Forest Service targets invasive plants at Lake Tahoe with herbicide treatments

Work will occur at approximately 70 infestation sites beginning May 15 and continuing through September 2015.
Forest Service to resume fuels reduction, tree thinning around Lake Tahoe Basin

These projects authorize thinning of trees and brush on National Forest System lands in the Lake Tahoe Basin to reduce the risk of severe wildfire and create healthier forests.

Noting Nevada is the seventh largest state by area, the website describes the Silver State comes with a "great deal of open space, varying landscapes, and many small towns dotting the terrain." The CultureTrip.com website has previously featured Carson City and Virginia City area landmarks, museums and restaurants as unique or must-see stops for travelers.

Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sat, 04/25/2015 - 1:32pmWith skies clearing Saturday afternoon after a good soaking overnight and showers earlier in the week, the National Weather Service says around a half inch of rain has fallen in the last 48 hours around Carson City, with Carson Valley getting around .70 of an inch.
Published Poets Wetherington, Stanley To Read at WNC
Submitted by editor on Wed, 04/22/2015 - 4:47pmPoetry lovers are in for a treat on Thursday, May 7, at Western Nevada College in Carson City. Published poets Laura Wetherington and Jared Stanley are scheduled to read starting at 4 p.m. in WNC’s Main Gallery.
“I don't know how long it's been since WNC had poets read here who have actually published books, but it's been quite a while,” said Douglas Barrett, Ph.D., an English instructor at WNC, is coordinating the event.
Barrett said that Wetherington and Stanley, who teach at Sierra Nevada College in Incline Village, bring a contemporary style to poetry.
