While waiting in line for a lift ticket this past winter I passed the time by whistling, "Born to Lose." I don't know why I was whistling that particular Ray Charles song, though I'm sure a psychiatrist could tell me. Be that as it may, a mother and young son were walking by when the little guy asked, "Mom, why is that man whistling?"

"Because he's happy, Honey," she answered with a smile.

Heading into the Independence Day holiday weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region to keep the next three days jam-packed with excitement.

Good morning Carson City, and happy Saturday! It'll be a bit warmer than yesterday with a high of 86 and a low of 51, and you can expect a bit of a breeze with 13 mph winds.

There's a lot going on today in our beautiful Capital City, with day two of Epic Rides, the Carson City Airport Open House and Wing Cook-off, the farmer's market, a youth expo, and more.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City area to help the next three days breeze by. There's a morning Muscle Powered walk, plus the Nevada State Museum will host 2 behind the scenes tours in natural history and anthropology. Plus, the fourth annual Carson City Off-Road kicks off its three-day event with a Capital 15 Fun Ride and Free Clunker Crit Ride. Heading into the evening, “Newsies” will take stage at the Carson City Community Center and you can sit under the stars and watch “The Little Rascals” at 8 p.m. during movie night at John Mankins Park.

Happy Saturday, Carson City! There are a ton of events going on in our beautiful capital city today as we officially head into summer following yesterday's solstice. Heading into Father’s Day weekend, there's plenty of jam-packed activities around the Carson City region. There's Flag Day ceremonies at the Nevada Veterans Memorial and at the Elks Lodge. The Stewart Father’s Day Powwow happens Friday to Sunday and features hundreds of American Indian dancers, drummers artists and cultural enthusiasts. Lace up the tennis shoes for the Eastside Historical tour of the capital city hosted by Muscle Powered. Journey of Hope returns to Western Nevada College at 5 p.m. to settle into the evening. Open Mic Night at A to Zen will cap-off an eventful Friday heading into the weekend.

With the weather reaching the mid-80s, now is the perfect time to get out and explore during a jam-packed three days around the Carson City region. Friday has plenty of events to get you to the weekend.

Good morning Carson City, and happy June! We have a ton of events going on today in our beloved capital city, with the June wine walk, the first day of the farmer’s market, a brew fest at Fuji park, and more! With a high of 75, it’s shaping up to finally start to feel like summer (knock on wood).

Heading into a jam-packed weekend of events around the Carson City region, there's a bevy of activities Friday to get your started. Lace up your shoes for a morning walk at Riverview Park, and then head on over to the Nevada State Museum for a coin press demonstration, and tours that explore anthropology and Nevada history. Later there's a cruise night gathering at Carson Mall to benefit Safe Grad Night, an Italian dinner fundraiser at the Governor's Mansion to benefit Carson City's homeless, live music at Living the Good Life and A to Zen, laughs at the Carson Comedy Club, and much more. CARSON CITY — The Carson Farmers Market will kick off the 2019 season this Saturday, June 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot at 3rd and Curry streets. The Farmers Market will run until Saturday, Sept. 28.

Enjoy fresh-picked produce, local meats, fresh flowers, artisan baked goods, jams, honey, crafts, live music and Carson City’s smiling faces.

The early farmers market hosted by Due Sorella (Two Sisters) is up and running with spring produce ready for your table.

Located in the parking lot behind 202 N. Curry Street, the market will be open for business every Saturday through May 25, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Carson City was abuzz Thursday evening at the Nevada State Legislature, in which over 100 Nevadan residents gathered to support honeybees, and their ability to be kept by residents.

Senate Bill 389, relating to the ability to keep bees in residential zones in Nevada, which has been hotly debated since it was announced on March 20, was read during a Natural Resources Committee meeting Wednesday.

Residents attended to an extent that legislative staff needed to open an overflow room to provide for those gathered, in which the meeting was televised from down the hall.

Senator Keith Pickard of southern Nevada, the man behind the hotly-debated bee bill, is standing behind his legislation in the face of controversy; however, he says, the Legislative Council Bureau of the Nevada State Legislature is at fault for not following his original intention. The bill's original intention was to stop the spread of Africanized Bees in Nevada, he says, which needs to be dealt with on a state level.

On Monday morning Mayor Bob Crowell donated $500 to the Carson City Chamber of Commerce 2019 Leadership Institute to help fund this year’s class project, a bee hotel in honor of the community being named the first Bee City USA of Nevada.

Ideal spring weather before the next system arrives Monday bringing with it warmer temperatures but showers as well. Carson City is a Bee City USA as of October 2018. When I first saw the sign, I didn’t know what it meant.

It is fitting that the state capital should be the first and only (so far) Bee City in Nevada. The city is now the 76th Bee City in the USA.
