The Boys Are Back In Town! Jeffrey James and the Wanted Gang will be at the "One-and-Only" Carson Station Hotel and Casino performing their Unique Style of "High Sierra Outlaw Rock Roll". Thats right. Jeffrey James and the Wanted Gang will have the Station rocking! Show dates Dec. 28-29 and Dec. 31, starting at 8:00 p.m.

June Joplin, owner of Comma Coffee, says revitalizing downtown Carson City means making it into a destination.
“We need to change it to a place to go instead of a place to go through,” she said, echoing comments Jim Phalen, who runs Firkin-Fox and High Sierra Brewing, made at a recent open house sponsored by city planners.

The Carson High School Bowling Team fell off of its pedestal last year for the first time in 12 years. The team, which have been champions every year since its inception in 2000-2001, lost by one pin to the Reed High School Bowling Team in early 2012.

Now, coaches Vern Barnes, Kevin Costa, and David Lethcoe are looking to get the team back up on that championship track. The Carson team has a great mixture of veterans and new faces on the roster to steer this team back into the winners circle.

General admission tickets are still available for Jorma Kaukonen’s performance this Thursday, Oct. 18 at The High Sierra Brewing Company in Carson City. Kaukonen, a founding member of Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna, is one of the most highly respected interpreters of Americana, Blues and American roots music. This is a unique opportunity to enjoy his music in an intimate, up close setting. The show begins at 8:00pm, doors open at 7 pm.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month and Outskirts Press and local author Steve Browne are proud to announce a book launch party for a new inspirational novel depicting the incredible journey of a NASA scientist born with cerebral palsy titled, “How To Raise A Rocket Scientist For Fun and Profit.” The event occurs October 15 at the Carson Cigar Company (318 N Carson St Ste 101).

Tim Renner will teach a free beginner West Coast swing lesson at 7 p.m.; afterwards, all new dancers may stay for the 8 p.m. dance for free. The now Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, founding member of iconic rock band The Jefferson Airplane and of long-touring band Hot Tuna and legendary guitarist in his own right, plays High Sierra Brewing Company, Thursday, Oct. 18 at 8 p.m. in a show produced by Chili Bop Entertainment.

The Carson Tahoe Health Foundation is pleased to announce net proceeds of over $50,000 for their 2nd Annual Carson City HopeFest fundraiser. This is an increase over last year’s net earnings of $37,000 and like last year, one hundred percent of these proceeds go towards local cancer patients seeking treatment in Carson City. Currently, the CTH Foundation is the only non-profit organization focused on supporting Carson area cancer patients with living expenses.

Hope and the promise of it for hundreds of Carson City area cancer patients lands on the lawn of the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center today. HopeFest, an annual benefit concert that will feature the music of Mo5aic and The Cutters, is one of the Carson City's biggest fundraising events with 100 percent of the money raised going directly to supports local cancer patients in need.

I wanted to take some time to send out a special thank you to the awesome Businesses and people in our community who helped support our Junior and Senior Little League All Stars advancement to the Western Regional Tournaments in Vancouver WA and Ontario, CA this year! With out their support this would not have been possible for these fine athletes. Our Juniors (13-14 year olds) and Seniors (15-16 year olds) both Finished 1 and 3 in their tournaments and failed to advance to the Little League World Series but had an experience that most kids never have had.

Dave Jenkins returns for his second performance at A Concert Under the Stars, a fundraiser for The Greenhouse Project, July 11 with his band, Pablo Cruise.
Jenkins performed four years ago for the inaugural event, which takes place at Café at Adele’s, but his love of music began at a tender age.
“My folks had an old pump organ and I couldn’t reach the pedals,” Jenkins said. “I’d play and my sister would pump the pedals for me; I always had an ear and a love for music.”

Carson High class of '82 is celebrating their 30th reunion. July 13th will start off with a meet and greet at High Sierra Brewery beginning, at 6pm. On July 14th, golf has been set up at Silver Oak Golf Course with tee times beginning at 8:00 am. Dinner, with a live band will follow at that location beginning at 6:00 pm. Tickets are on sale for the fourth annual Concert Under the Stars, a fundraiser for The Greenhouse Project, featuring Pablo Cruise, Jaime Kyle and Northern Nevada’s own The Mighty Surf Lords.

The event takes place July 11 at Café at Adele’s and begins with the silent auction at 5 p.m., followed at 6 p.m. with happy, fun-filled music by The Mighty Surf Lords, who also played the venue last year and who open this year for Jaime Kyle and Pablo Cruise.

Carson City’s wide open high desert roads and proximity to the High Sierra is the main attraction for hundreds of motorcycle enthusiasts from around the world this summer when it hosts the 2012 American Motorcycle Association's International Women & Motorcycling Conference, July 26-29.

May 16th was Muscle Powered’s annual Bike to Work Week cruiser ride, and this year we had record attendance. We estimated around 100 riders this year, double the previous record of about 50. Thank you nice weather!

We’re going to have a big party at the Firkin and Fox on Friday night the 18th to celebrate everyone’s hard work this week. In addition to announcing the winners of the Corporate Challenge, we’re going to have live music from Notch 8, and a raffle with prizes you don’t want to miss out on.

King St., Carson City. There will be a lesson at 7 p.m., with the social dance at 8-10:30 p.m. Men may purchase tickets for 10 cents a dance (or 12 tickets for $1). Between 8 and 9 p.m., each time you dance with a different woman, give her a ticket, which will be entered into a 9 p.m. drawing for raffle prizes.

No, I can't dance, but you can come watch and laugh as I try tomorrow night at the “Local Celebrities Who Think They Can Dance” event at the Carson Nugget.

The event is put on by the High Sierra Swing Dance Club, and involves getting some local "celebrities" to compete in a mini "Dancing with the Stars"-style contest. If you are the betting type, I'd put my money on Sheriff Kenny Furlong to win.
