Tasters go for the bold and zesty during first day of Carson City chili cook-off
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sat, 07/12/2014 - 3:42pmLots of shady trees, a nice gentle breeze and plenty of ice cold beer were enough to keep the heat down a notch Saturday at the High Sierra Regional Chili Cook-Off and Craft Fair in Carson City.
The two-day event at Glen Eagles Restaurant, which continues through Sunday, has brought dozens of the best chili cookers from around the region hoping for a chance to win prize money, bragging rights and a trip to Las Vegas for the World Chili Cook-off Championship. The public is invited to Sunday's event and sampling costs next to nothing, organizers said.

International Chili Society chefs will compete for a chance to go to the World Cook-Off in Las Vegas. The public is invited to sample red and verde chili as well as salsas. Tasting kits are $3 each.
The "People's Choice" Chili award will be determined by the vote collected by everyone who samples.

Carson St. Vintage 1950s-‘60s dance music will be played, and costumes of that era are encouraged. The fun includes dance, hula hoop, costume and limbo contests and door prizes. Cost is $5 for car show participants, $7 for members of HSSDC and Reno’s Biggest Little Swing Dance Club, $10 general for individuals and $15 for couples.
Carson City Leadership Institute graduates class of 2014 tonight

Friday night at the Chamber’s annual meeting, which is sold out, the class will unveil its unique and historic class project that has the souls of some very historic figures, including our founder Abram Curry, dancing on their graves.

"We are devastated, shocked, heartbroken," said Scott Doerr, who owns the business with partner and chef Tony Fish.
Doerr said they were presented with a termination of tenancy on June 16 by Double Eagle Cubed LLC, the entity that purchased the building from Magpie Properties, LLC last year.

You really couldn’t ask for better weather here in Carson City for encouraging people to get out on their bikes. Last night we had 94 adults and 29 children signed in for our Westside Cruiser ride, and the miles and trips are really starting to rack up for the Bicycle Commuter Corporate Challenge. To say thank you for all your hard work, we’re going to throw you a street party!

Popular Carson City High Sierra Brewing Company faces closure

The High Sierra Brewing Company announced Wednesday that, barring a last minute partnership or investment, it would be closing its doors on March 29.

The event at the Carson Mall begins at 5:30 p.m. and will feature a live and silent auction, raffle for wheelbarrow full of wine, and a drawing for a 4-Day Samuel Adams Boston trip for two!

Battle of the Bars this Sunday in Carson City collects toys for Salvation Army

Carson City area bars and taverns have been collecting toys since late November and will push for a final count this Sunday, Dec. 15, 6 p.m.
The Salvation Army officials will be “Bar Hopping” this Sunday afternoon and evening picking up toys and thanking everyone for their support of this Toy Drive.

Lynn was born Sept. 28, 1942 in Pittsburg, Calif. Among her survivors are her husband James Michael Phalan, her brother William (Lisa) Barbagallo, sister Noreen Byrd, daughter Michelle (Tim) Cleveland, sons Jeff Phalan, and Jim (Gabriela); step children Dave (Debbie) Phalan, Janine Phalan, and Greg (Dora) Phalan, grandchildren Nathan and Ashley Edwards, Zoey Cleveland, Emily Lawrence, Sofia, Jimmy, Jamie, Sara, Holly and Tierra Phalan.

Presented by the Brewers Association, GABF is the largest national beer competition that recognizes the most outstanding beers produced in the United States. The top three winners in the competition’s 84 beer-style categories were announced Oct. 12 at the Great American Beer Festival awards ceremony held at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colo.

HopeFest outdoor concert Friday in Downtown Carson City to benefit local cancer patients
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 10/02/2013 - 4:10pmThe Carson Tahoe Health Foundation announces HopeFest 2013, an outdoor concert offering free admission with all sales on food, drinks and raffle tickets directly benefitting local cancer patients.
The outdoor event featuring the band Notch 8 takes place on Friday, October 4 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. outside of the Firkin & Fox restaurant on Third Street in Carson City. The event was rescheduled due to hazardous air conditions caused by the California Rim Fire.
