Carson City Firehouse Sub patrons collect 80 cases of water in H20 for Heroes campaign

Firehouse Subs invited its guests to participate Saturday in H20 for Heroes, a nationwide effort to collect bottled water for firefighting agencies. Carson City residents delivered by donating more than 80 cases of bottled water to local first responders.

Summer weekends make me wish I had a clone. With all the hustle and bustle in town, there is just no way to do and see it all. Start the day at the Silver Dollar Car Classic and you can get your fill of shiny chrome and breakfast, too; the Kiwanis will be serving up pancakes until 10:30 a.m. The Downtown Carson City Wine Walk has been infiltrated by the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival. Several of the stops will be hosting musicians, in addition to vino.

Thursday, June 8: Things to do in Carson City

Holy moly, what a way to start the weekend. The Nevada State Fair kicks off today in Carson City’s Mills Park and so does the Annual Carson Valley Days celebration in Douglas County. No matter where you are, there is a carnival nearby. You’ll find some fun in downtown Carson tonight with karaoke at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar or at the Westside Pour House. Kick start your bike and head to Battle Born Harley; their Bike Night features live music by the Smoken Rabbits. Keep a sweater handy, the temperature is dipping a little, and will drop even further as soon as the sun goes down.

Here in the Nevada state capital, it takes four days to make things right for the service men and women buried here who have served and sacrificed over the years.

Stay safe out there, and enjoy the day.

Memorial Weekend activities continue Sunday into Monday

It’s the perfect time to enjoy family and friends and some great music. The Carson Nugget powers it up to rock out tonight with Volt: A Tribute to AC/DC in their ballroom. Dayton Valley Golf Course offers up dinner and a show with this year’s debut of Concerts on the Green. Blues Monster and pulled pork sliders are a great way to enjoy the evening.

Volunteers and veterans place flags at Carson City cemetery ahead of Memorial Day

Veterans and families from Carson City volunteered their time at Lone Mountain Cemetery on Friday by placing more than 1,000 flags over the headstones of fallen veterans.

More Nevadans now eligible for down payment assistance

The State of Nevada Housing Division has raised the household income limit for its Home Is Possible programs, making even more Nevadans eligible for down payment assistance. Since the programs started in 2014, the income limit has been $95,500. In keeping with Nevada’s rising incomes, the limit has been raised three percent to $98,500.

Petco Foundation Invests in Pets of the Homeless’ service and therapy animals

Holiday with a Hero culminates at Wal-Mart in North Carson City

Ten weeks after the 2016 campaign began, Holiday with a Hero culminated Wednesday morning in the Wal-Mart parking lot off Retail Drive in North Carson City.

Hundreds of homeless children and their families braved the wet conditions for a chance to see Santa Claus arrive by fire engine and to go shopping with their community hero.

Reno Phil Selected Pieces Focus on Military Battles and Victories
