Cooperative Extension hosts successful Youth Summer Day Camp

The Cooperative Extension and 4-H Office held its first ever Youth Summer Day Camp. Lindsay Chichester, Extension Educator says, “We have actively been working on creating awareness about 4-H and Extension, and what we can provide to both youth and adults in our community.

Celebrate the dog days of summer on Sunday August 7th at the Carson City Senior Center with CASI Bingo. CASI is an all volunteer non-profit dedicated to raising money to build and equip the new animal shelter in Carson City.

Doors open at 11:30 AM and the first game starts at 12:30 PM. Buy in is $10 and extra packs are $5. Special games are $1 each. We also have a 50/50 raffle and door prizes too. No need to worry about lunch as we offer hot dogs at our snack bar and sometimes the wonderful volunteers will bring something yummy to eat.

Tryouts begin Friday: Carson Futbol Club youth soccer offers more than impressive wins

It’s hard not to be impressed by the winning records of the Carson Futbol Club. But if you talk to the coaches themselves, they’ll tell you the club means so much more than trophies, though trophies are always nice.

“It works pretty much like a family,” said Frank Martinez, coach of the boys CFC team Pumas Elite. “The main thing is to guide these boys to be better people and better men.”

Richard Pitts was 15 the first time he was asked to umpire a game. He’d gone to watch a younger classmate play baseball just to find out the game was in jeopardy because only one official had shown up.

Technology on display at annual science night

Anthony Aguilar and Jack Wilson, both 13-year-old eighth-graders at Eagle Valley Middle School gave a demonstration on how to work a robotic arm at the annual Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math Night.

“You can move it up or down or also turn the rotation of the claw,” explained Anthony. He showed how to pick up different items with it.

Carson City teen wins state title at Boys and Girls Clubs Youth of the Year competition

Autumn Cuellar, an 18-year-old Carson High School senior, earned the title of 2016 Nevada State Boys & Girls Clubs Youth of the Year in Las Vegas Thursday, Feb. 18, competing against club members from Las Vegas, Mason Valley, Reno and Elko. Cuellar won the local Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada competition in January.

Carson City table tennis club to compete in senior games

When Shirley Ling moved to Carson City 13 years ago, one of her first stops was to check out what activities were offered at the senior center. She found friendship and recreation, playing some pool here and there. But about six years ago, she found her real niche, playing table tennis.

Senator Square: Honor Society holds winter blood drive; signups begin for Polar Plunge

National Honor Society is hosting its winter blood drive. It will take place on January 28 in the library from 7:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. It is open to community members.  Refreshments and a free cholesterol test is available with each donation. Scouts enjoy Day at Cabela's

Cub Scout Day at Cabela’s was a huge success on October 14. Scouts of all ages from around the Nevada Area Council converged on the sporting goods giant to just have fun for an afternoon. There were bounce houses, video games, displays from Department of Wildlife, Nevada Elks Association, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and more. There also were games and projects for the boys.
