Imagine being awakened in the middle of the night by a stranger, escorted out into the chill of dark Nevada twilight, placed in a strange car, and driven to a strange house with more strangers who tell you everything is going to be all right.

To top it off, you are expected to go back to sleep in a strange bed.

Welcome to the world of a foster child, whose story is much the same whether it's told in Las Vegas or Battle Mountain, in Caliente or Carson City.

You are invited to the CASA of Carson City Information Hour, March 23 at 5:30 pm. We are located in the Family Court complex at 1539 E. 5th Street. Drive straight in to the back of the parking lot and you will see our big CASA sign on the door.

CASA of Carson City will hold the first class in a 10 week CASA volunteer training, Thursday, September 24, 6-9pm, at the CASA of Carson City office, 1539 E. 5th Street.

CASA volunteers are appointed by the Carson City Juvenile Court to serve as guardian ad litem for a case of abused or neglected children in a child welfare court case.

Every year, we celebrate the people from the community who step forward to advocate for abused or neglected children in Carson City--our CASA Volunteers. These exceptional individuals are appointed to serve as guardian ad litem under NRS 432b.500 by the Carson City Juvenile Court.

Chris Bayer tells us about CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocates. CASA of Carson City advocates volunteer to "speak up" for children in First Judicial District of Nevada child welfare cases — Carson City and Storey County. Bayer serves as director.

Children enter these cases when Nevada's Division of Child and Family Services has determined it is unsafe for the child to remain at home due to abuse or neglect.

CASA OF CARSON CITY will begin a CASA volunteer training January 30, 5:30 to 8:30 at the Carson City Juvenile Court, 1545 E. 5th St.. Anyone is welcome to attend the first of the ten training sessions to learn more about CASA.

When Carson City children are removed from the home due to abuse or neglect and placed in state custody the Carson City Juvenile Court appoints a trained community member to serve as guardian ad litem for the child.

Ordinary people with good communication skills, caring, patience and writing ability advocate for the best interests of the child while they are in state care.
