Here is the full text of Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval's speech delivered to the Nevada Legislature Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015.

Mr. President, Mr. Speaker, Distinguished Members of the Legislature, Honorable Justices of the Supreme Court, Constitutional Officers:

With the holiday season now a memory and the decorations coming down, Carson City and Waste Management again offer their annual Christmas tree curbside recycling service beginning Monday. As in previous post-holiday years, Christmas trees can be placed curbside on your regular trash collection day or taken to drop off locations.

A 26-year-old Stateline man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of felony possession of methamphetamine and other charges after a traffic stop in the 4000 block of South Curry Street, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, during a consensual stop at a parked car in a movie theater parking lot at 1:57 a.m., an officer asked the man, Daniel Louis Allen, for identification.

He is a Native New Yorker, saxophone player, guitarist, drummer, vocalist and overall, professional musician. He has played music over 35 years and has performed in some of the top venues, including Windows on the World at the World Trade Center, Tavern on the Green in Central Park, and the Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Center.

Carson City fans of the Green Bay Packers won a challenge against San Francisco 49ers fans Monday as Salvation Army bell ringers rang their bells at a Red Kettle Ring Off.

The Packers fans raised $226.51 and the 49ers fans raised $143.34. The protest kettles for “Any other Team” raised $14.25. The challenge took place at the Wal-Mart on Topsy Lane from 4 to 6 p.m.

The Salvation Army Red Kettles at Walmart on Topsy Lane will have a challenge between the Green Bay Packer’s fans and San Francisco 49ers fans Monday, Dec. 22 from 4 to 6 p.m. The Packers fans will be “bell ringing” at the grocery entrance and the 49er fans will be “bell ringing” at the household entrance.

The Salvation Army is not taking sides on this challenge, but is excited to see some of the local NFL fans come out and help them serve the community.

The Nevada Landscape Association Annual Conference and Trade Show, co-sponsored by the Nevada Department of Agriculture, University of Nevada Cooperative Extension and City of Reno Urban Forestry Commission, will be held on Wednesday February 4, 2015 at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center.

Last week, Rob Buonamici of Carson City and I spent a fun-filled day, "supposedly" scouting for buck mule deer.
I say supposedly, because we actually spent the day, having a ton of fun, enjoying the scenery and my taking a whole bunch of photos (over 60!) We were in Nevada's Big Game Management Area 192.

That Management Area is bounded by U.S. 50 on the north side, the California state line on the south side, U.S. 395 on the east side and Lake Tahoe on the west side.

Autumn has come gently this year with hot weather continuing into October. The leaves are finally turning color. At University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, Master Gardeners are often asked why leaves change color. Is the cold responsible?

A police chase that began Tuesday morning on Highway 395 and Eastlake in Carson City ended near Bordertown in California north of the state line with the arrest of a Reno woman, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Melanie Marnne-Lawson, 53, was arrested after the vehicle pursuit, which began at around 9:30 a.m. and reached speeds in excess of 85 mph along Highway 395, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson. The chase began after a hit and run accident happened on Highway 395 and Eastlake in Carson City where a dark green Dodge pickup truck had rear ended another vehicle and fled the scene.

Abundant moisture and instability will lead to increasing chances for thunderstorms this week for the Carson City and Douglas County region, Western Nevada and the Lake Tahoe Basin.

Due to light winds aloft and high moisture content, the storms may produce heavy rain and bring the potential for flash flooding, according to the National Weather Service. A Flash Flood Watch has been issued Wednesday for Douglas County in Nevada and Mono and Alpine counties in California.
